Job Responsibilities:
Position Summary: The Staff Accountant Performs advanced professional accounting work that requires knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, and the application of concepts, theories, and terminology of accounting.

Essential Functions:
  • Prepares funding source requisitions/billings, prepares periodic reports to funding sources, reconciles total expenses to authorized funding, and reconciles payments.
  • Maintains Accounts Receivable subsidiary ledger through transaction entry and payment application.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations.
  • Maintains the general ledger by posting entries for month-end closing and detecting discrepancies.
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts.
  • Participates in the preparation and maintenance of annual budgets.
  • Participates in the annual financial statement audit.
  • Reconciles company credit card transactions.
Job Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Non-profit and grant accounting experience preferred, and advanced skills in working with Excel spreadsheets and accounting software. Must possess the ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner.

Minimal Qualifications and Salary Schedule:

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and at least 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.

Working Conditions:

Required to enter data into computer, and the work is performed while sitting for extended periods of time with the ability to move about at will.

Physical Demands:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle objects and controls. Must possess hand and finger dexterity. Handling files and documents may require reaching with hands and arms. Could have a requirement to stoop, kneel or crouch and to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
