Senior Payroll Technician

The Senior Payroll Technician is r esponsible for keying semi-monthly payrolls and preparing tax deposits, tax returns, and related reports for the associations, Credit Union and AgFirst Farm Credit Bank. Provides the processing of the payroll semi-monthly.
Duties & Responsibilities :
Payroll Processing and Semi-Monthly Payroll Data Implementation
- Keys, reviews for accuracy and balances semi-monthly payroll data for several AgFirst District associations including the processing of all new hires and personnel actions
- Oversees the keying for AgFirst Farm Credit Bank
- Makes necessary payroll adjustments such as voiding direct deposits and checks and issuing manual checks for the AgFirst FCB district
- Prepares accounts payable check and wire requests for payment of taxes, garnishments, united way and credit union deductions for the AgFirst district
- Tests and add new garnishment deductions for the AgFirst FCB district
- Verifies and balances semi-monthly Peoplesoft interface reports to Oracle
- Keys manual journal entries to the general ledger
- Serves as back up for the Texas associations? payroll data entry and other data entry and verification
- Assists payroll contacts with keying issues and questions
Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Payroll Taxes
- Prepare federal, state and backup withholding deposits for the AgFirst Farm Credit Bank district
- Makes tax deposits, balances quarter and annual tax reports and files returns for various local and all state and backup withholding taxes for the AgFirst Farm Credit Bank District
- Runs and separates the tax reports for the preparation of all quarterly and annual tax returns
- Keys and reconciles federal, state and back up withholding spreadsheets for use during quarterly tax reporting
- Scans returns quarterly to an accessible network drive for permanent storage
- Verifies the Texas tax returns quarterly. Assists with W-2 distribution
Payroll Processing
- Processes the semi-monthly payroll for the AgFirst and Texas Farm Credit Banks to include updating and releasing time records for employees, running the PeopleSoft to Oracle Interface, creating both flex time records and life insurance reportable income, verifying new hire and terminated employees? pay status
- Generates various payroll reports for both the AgFirst and Texas Farm Credit Bank Districts
- Other responsibilities include processing semi-monthly leave accrual, processing payroll to general ledger, payroll adjustments and transferring ACH, Positive Pay and Office of Child Support files to production control for transmission
Miscellaneous Duties
- Completes employment verification requests same day as requested
- Maintain daily positive pay and return items reports for the AgFirst District
- Serves as back up for the Texas District
- Researches and resolves items
- Reconciles payroll bank account for Texas
- Reconciles Texas payroll related general ledger accounts monthly
- Answers Remedy tickets and provides customer support for payroll contacts
- Provides assistance and helps to train new employees
- Maintains records & correspondence with employees on Sick Family Leave
- Maintains records & correspondence with employees on negative leave balances
Marginal Functions
- Payroll manuals and desk procedures are current, clearly written & easy to understand as evaluated by the payroll contacts
- Works on special projects as needed
Requirements :
- Education and/or experience equivalent to an Associate Degree in accounting, business, computer systems or related field
- 6+ years of experience with an automated payroll system
- Possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles, math aptitude, 10-key, strong PC skills
- Thorough knowledge of Oracle payroll system
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities
- Excellent customer service skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software
