Help us create a better future, quicker

Working as part of a highly skilled 24/7 World Class Control Centre, you?ll be part of the team at Whitelee Windfarm that is responsible for the control of wind farm assets, including wind turbines, Solar PV/ BESS assets and High-voltage infrastructure. You?ll ensure that the wind farm complies with National Grid operating conditions and will carry out reporting duties to comply with energy trading and internal performance reporting requirements.

Working onsite at Whitelee Windfarm really brings home the purpose of what you?ll be doing. You?ll be responding to emerging events, including wind turbine and High Voltage faults, maximising availability of plant and minimising lost production through the efficient management of complex technical issues and will have a direct influence on business revenue.

At Whitelee Windfarm, lifestyle balance is encouraged. We have sit-stand desks and a small gym on site as well as the numerous trails at Whitelee, which offer a range of opportunities for our colleagues to go cycling, walking or running during breaks on shift. We also have onsite parking, allowing you to avoid congested city-centre parking.

If you are interested in career progression, we offer a full structured training program over a two-year period, with a clear career path for working towards a Senior Operational Controller post with added responsibilities and the opportunity to deputise for the Control Room Shift Manager from time to time.

What you?ll be doing

Day to day, you?ll have direct responsibility and accountability to monitor 39 operational onshore windfarms, 3 offshore and several BESS and solar sites 24/7 365 days a year, using System Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA), ensuring the highest energetic availability from ScottishPower Renewables portfolio and High Voltage infrastructure.

You?ll be monitoring wind turbine status, Solar PV/ BESS assets and HV infrastructure and reacting to any events or alarms or system service instructions, carrying out initial diagnosis of fault and performing any remote reset of faults or coordinating with local teams for resolution. Ensuring business compliance is a key part of the role, including compliance with all National Grid instructions such as active power curtailments, reactive power adjustments and frequency response changes.

What you?ll bring

We would love for you to have an electrical or mechanical background and experience working within a renewables/oil and gas environment or experience working in a control room environment. You should have a high level of IT skills, including Scada applications and be willing to undertake shift working covering dayshifts, nightshifts and weekends as well as living within a 1 ? hour radius of Whitelee windfarm (or prepared to relocate) in order to attend call outs to site. High Voltage experience and experience of remote switching would be preferable, but is not essential as full training will be provided.

As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, we?ll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.
