Quality Assurance Manager
Department: Quality Assurance Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Location: Corporate (supports Bremerton and Tacoma) FSLA Status: Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: Hands-on leader of all SAFE Boats Quality Assurance activities. Manages efforts to maintain continuous product quality by developing and implementing process controls, data analysis and measurement methodology. Ensures consistent quality of production by developing and enforcing good processes and quality assurance systems; validating processes; providing documentation; managing staff; assist in developing, executing and monitoring the quality assurance plan with concurrence from the broader functional organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements; implementing change.
- Promotes the value of quality as an element of company culture.
- Maintains a positive, collaborative relationship with Operations, Engineering, and other relevant Departments regarding the achievement of quality goals
- Provides clear and consistent expectations for reporting of quality status and issues by QA Team Members across all facilities and projects.
- Conducts QA inspections as a functioning member of the QA Team
- Oversees scheduling of QA inspections by site and QA technician
- Ensures boats are built to contract and/or industry standards (ABYC, AWS, etc) and QA checks are in alignment with those standards
- Meets quality assurance financial objectives by estimating requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
- Ensures quality standards are measured consistently from QA tech to QA tech without bias.
- Understands and enforces validity of QA hits and impact on production, mandates rework if/when necessary if/when beyond cosmetic or superficial
- Develops quality assurance plans by conducting hazard analyses; identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures; monitoring inventories.
- Validates quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes; measuring production; documenting evidence; determining operational and performance qualification; writing and updating quality assurance procedures.
- Maintains and improves product quality by completing product, company, system, compliance, and surveillance audits; investigating customer complaints; collaborating with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs, and manufacturing and training methods.
- Prepares quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-validations.
- Tracks and reports out on Cost of Quality by Department and the organization as a whole.
- Updates job knowledge by studying trends in and developments in quality management; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Accomplishes quality assurance team human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
- Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
- Acts as company ISO leader, SME (Subject Matter Expert) and Point of Contact. Ensures company?s ongoing compliance to ISO9000 standards as a whole.
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum of five years of management experience in leading QA efforts for production of boats or similar products, marine experience preferred
- In depth understanding of electrical and mechanical systems and building techniques. ABYC knowledge and /or AWS (American Welding Society) credentials preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience working in a PLM or CRM system.
- Experience creating and successfully managing to a budget, ability to understand and interpret financial reports.
- Ability to and experience in leading and motivating employees to meet established company goals
- Ability to provide written, verbal and hands on instructions to employees.
- Strong work ethic and social compatibility necessary.
- ISO experience strongly preferred
E ducation:
- High School Diploma (GED/High School Equivalence Certificate)
- Bachelor?s degree preferred in a related field- Manufacturing, Engineering, Business or equivalent experience
- Industry credentials and certifications like ABYC (American Boating and Yachting Council) and/or AWS (American Welding Society) preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Position requires use of computer, telephones and other office equipment, reading, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time (up to 10 hours)
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Grasping, writing, reading, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, stooping, squatting, and stretching to complete tasks
- Listening and hearing ability and visual acuity
- Must be able to work at heights and/or confined spaces
