Accounting Assistant Full-time

Overview: Assist accounting staff in the areas of tax and regulatory reporting, operational accounting, investment and treasury accounting, and accounts payable. Process transactions in accounting systems to support the monthly financial closing process and meet tax and regulatory deadlines. Responsibilities:
  • Assist with completion of regulatory and tax filings, including statutory financial statements.
  • Maintain database of regulatory and tax filings, including due dates and assignments.
  • Maintain electronic filing system for regulatory and tax filings.
  • Assist with routine maintenance to Unit 4 Financials and other software applications.
  • Assist with Federal 1099 filings.
  • Complete financial journal entries as assigned on the journal entry inventory.
  • Assist with the processing and recording of treasury transactions, including direct payment, positive pay, ACH, wires, voids, etc.
  • Complete financial closing duties as assigned on the monthly closing checklist.
  • Assist with completion of uncashed check procedures, including the processing of follow-up letters and the submission of unclaimed property filings.
  • Complete daily/monthly system balancing procedures.
  • Process daily bank deposits and record corresponding transactions in the general ledger.
  • Assist with monitoring and recording of daily bank account activity.
  • Assist with maintenance of the corporate gift card program.
  • Enter purchase orders to the procurement system.
  • Enter financial transactions to the general ledger system.
  • Complete claims internal correction adjustments.
  • Assist and back up accounts payable function as needed.
  • Complete department projects as assigned.
  • Associate's degree in accounting or equivalent experience in an accounting support role is required.
  • Two or more years in an accounting support role preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting and reporting principles.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and related software skills.
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess effective time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Must be responsible and able to work on own initiative.
