Paralegal 2 (2 positions) Full-time

The Office of the Insurance Commissioner?s (OIC) is seeking motivated and qualified individuals to fill two permanent full-time Paralegal 2 positions. These positions are assigned to the Legal Affairs Division, located in our Tumwater office.
With a high level of independence, the Paralegal 2 position, provides well-organized, substantive paralegal assistance, ranging from simple to complex legal matters, to a team of Insurance Enforcement Specialists.

Reporting to the Paralegal Supervisor within our Legal Affairs division, these positions will independently perform a wide variety of paraprofessional duties; to include providing consistent and competent resources necessary for achieving fair and efficient regulations of the insurance industry. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Drafts enforcement orders and correspondence ranging from simple to complex legal matters.
  • Prepares and organizes documents for prehearing conferences, internal agency meetings, hearings, or as requested by the Insurance Enforcement Specialists.
  • Monitors deadlines and formal compliance plans and ensures actions are taken by necessary parties in timely manner.
  • Participate in business process transformation projects.


Required Qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduation from an accredited two-year paralegal program; plus two years' experience as a paralegal, OR
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college and completion of a nine-month paralegal program; plus one year experience as a paralegal, OR
  • Three years' experience as a paralegal, OR
  • Two years as a Paralegal 1 OR
  • High school graduate or GED with eight years of experience in progressive advancement in the legal assistance of attorneys, administrative law judges, review judges or equivalent.

  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to type or input 40 words per minute.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • One to three years? experience in a state regulatory enforcement environment.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience in public records requests.
  • Familiarity with the Washington regulatory process.
  • Familiarity with the Washington legislative process.
  • Familiarity with the insurance industry.
