Museum Manager Full-time

Location: Centre Theater

Coordinates with: Centre Theater and Elmwood Park Zoo Staff


Summary of Responsibilities
: This individual should display leadership, dependability, and must be comfortable interacting with guests. The Museum Manager is expected to help facilitate the daily operations of the Charles L. Blockson Exhibition, as well as the Centre Theater building and brand as a whole. The Museum Manager is expected to be familiar with all the daily operations of the Blockson Exhibit, so that they are able to step in and assist with staff breaks, line relief, and assist with any technical or point of sales (POS) concerns at the position. In addition, these individuals will be responsible for assisting with cash drawer close outs at the end of the shift. The Museum Manager is responsible for overseeing the Museum Guest Services Representatives, ensuring that these employees are trained and that their roles and duties are being completed. The Museum Manager will also assist with creating the schedule for these employees and communicating regularly with them. The Museum Manager has the opportunity to help to further develop the brand of the Blockson Exhibit and Centre Theater through approved merchandise, and other approved means to further develop the growth of this organization.


Museum Team Member Responsibilities
:

  • Assist the organization in its mission to educate visitors and create an engaging experience.
  • Assist management in ensuring safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all areas operation.
  • Be available as per business needs.
  • Always adhere to proper dress attire.
  • Be prepared to work while standing for multiple hours.
  • Always follow and adhere to all policies and procedures for the organization.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively leads their team to operate the Charles L. Blockson Exhibition and Centre Theater as a whole.
  • Oversees cash and safe management, as well as facility opening and closing procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with all guests and groups.
  • Respond to guest needs, both stated and implied.
  • Ability to train new staff members in all necessary aspects of the organization such as cashier, admissions sales, reception, guest check-in, retail sales, event facilitation, and other roles involved with public programming and daily operations. This position also includes the potential to facilitate evening programs, events, and shows.
  • Assists with supervising and overseeing the Museum Operations staff for daily operations.
  • Oversee event, program, and/ or party setup and execution to ensure these groups are provided a quality experience.
  • Oversees the scheduling and hiring of Museum Guest Services Representatives.
  • Creates the weekly schedule for the Museum team; including scheduling for daily operations, event and program staffing, and private group trip/tours staffing.
  • Ensures that new staff are scheduled to be trained on the various positions within the organization.
  • Ensure that the work area and bathroom are kept neat and orderly, including any merchandise presented and maintaining a professional and clean counter to customers.
  • Responsible for responding to customer inquiries regarding admission rates, hours of operations, memberships, special events, attractions, etc.
  • Assist with and address any comments, complaints, or concerns made by staff members, volunteers and guests.
  • Oversees the retail and merchandise ordering for the museum store.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Director of Guest Services and Elmwood Park Zoo senior management.
  • Responsible for creating and managing the Public Program/ Special Events annual calendar.
  • Coordinates private group trips and tours of the facility.
  • Creates Public Event Orders (PEOs) for the Elmwood Park Zoo?s Public Programs/ Special Events and distributes them to the other departments.
  • Oversees the Guest Services Representatives, ensuring that their roles and responsibilities are completed.
  • Creates Program Reports to gain feedback from visitors, programs, and events.
  • Tracks all organization related sales fields to see how the museum is performing and where improvements can be made.
  • Oversee with cash drawer openings and closeouts for each shift.


Basic Qualifications

  • 3 years? experience in management of staff and retail sales
  • This position may require prolonged standing.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
  • This role is part-time and requires full availability for any shift and a minimum of three days per week, including weekends, and an occasional holiday


Education
: High School Diploma/Equivalent

License: A valid Driver?s license/State ID and second form of valid identification is required. Ability to pass background and child abuse clearances.

Wages: $15.00 to 16.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications
