Assistant Coordinator

Racine Literacy Council (RLC) has provided literacy services in Racine County since 1965. The organization?s Adult Literacy Program provides tutoring for adults who want to improve basic literacy skills or learn the English language. The program is student-centered and provided at minimal cost with trained volunteer tutors. Additionally, the organization seeks to expand community literacy around topics of health, finance, the environment, civics and media to promote a strong, healthy, and engaged community. RLC is a ProLiteracy Accredited member, a member of Wisconsin Literacy, Inc., and a United Way of Racine Partner Provider.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a resource to students, tutors, and walk-in community members during scheduled office hours (Scheduled, evening office hours are expected for this role with some flexibility for remote work approximately 2 hours per week)
- Coordinate and complete the intake process with new Adult Literacy students
- Process and input registration forms and collect student payments
- Conduct testing with Adult Literacy students, interpret the results and share necessary information to begin the tutoring placement
- Read tutor reports and provide support and feedback to tutors in a timely manner. Use discretion to determine when further intervention is necessary and make referrals for follow-up to the Director of Adult Literacy
- Follow up with adult literacy students to address any needs or concerns
- Assist the Director of Adult Literacy programs with program operation and development
- Represent Racine Literacy Council in the community, at professional association events, fairs, volunteer recruitment events, and other events deemed relevant to advancing the work of the organization
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Associate?s degree or higher preferred
- Spanish Proficiency necessary
- Availability Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 5p-8p for tutoring and class hours
- Demonstrated responsiveness and sensitivity to cultural differences.
- Experience working with volunteers
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently on a diverse range of tasks
- Accurate record keeping abilities; detail oriented administrative abilities.
- Effectively manage time and prioritize activities and projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office
