JOB DESCRIPTION


Summary/Objective:

The Director of Accounting (DOA) is responsible for establishing, implementing and coordinating the accounting systems of the Bank, assuring the existence and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and operating procedures related to the banking industry, coordinating compliance with regulatory policy and practices, preparing budgets/forecasts and working directly with lines of business/department managers, and supervising, developing and assisting accounting department staff. The DOA assists the CFO in the management of the investment portfolio of the Bank and Holding Company, ALCO, and related funds management administration to provide optimum returns and adequate liquidity, while maintaining acceptable levels of interest rate risk and credit risk.

In this position, you will coordinate and supervise the accounting department, delegating work and ensuring the staff follows all current laws and company procedures. You must be able to take large amounts of accounting information, analyze results, and make changes where necessary to benefit the company.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:

The DOA supervises finance related accounting functions; assists in the development and supervision of the internal controls of the bank and assists in the processing of all regulatory reporting required. This position reports to the EVP/CFO.

Essential Functions

  • Recruit, manage, and oversee accounting/finance department, work with other accounting staff.
  • Create accounting strategies to maximize profits.
  • Regularly examine financial statements and ensure they are accurate and free of any errors.
  • Organize and update financial records; monitor all bookkeeping.
  • Analyze accounts and suggest improvements to reduce costs and increase profits.
  • Keep company accounts information confidential.
  • Stay abreast of industry changes and current tax/accounting laws.
  • Manage all finance and accounting operations.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R. A/P. GL and Counsel, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition.
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Establish and maintain policies and/or internal controls for the accounting systems of the Bank, to ensure accurate results of operations in conformance with GAAP and regulatory policy.
  • Supervise the creation and maintenance of the general ledger chart of accounts and integration mapping.
  • Review and modify reporting systems and prepare reports to ensure that directors, management and regulatory agencies are provided with accurate information in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and update the Capital Plan.
  • Assist in the processing of various correspondence, schedules or narratives related to special projects, insurance applications, branch applications, merger transactions, offering circulars, etc. Maintain liaison between various legal counsels, outside accounting firm and appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare or review regulatory or other required reports as applicable.
  • Direct and facilitate Pricing Committee and determination of deposit rates.
  • Assist/facilitated functions related to the investments and portfolio accounting.
  • Serve on ALCO and prepare or review reports for presentation to the committee.

Other Duties:

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Community Bank has adopted a 40-hour work week. Some flexibility in hours is necessary based on the location assignments, but the employee must be available during the ?core? work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and must work at least 37.5 hours each week to maintain full-time status.

Travel:

Travel for this position is limited to travel for meetings/training.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor?s degree in finance, business administration or accounting
  • CPA Certification; continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements
  • Ten (10+) years? experience of regulatory/industry accounting experience in a senior accounting position
  • Advanced knowledge of professional accounting software
  • Extensive business experience and strategic knowledge
  • Skilled in Microsoft suite; proficient in complex accounting systems
  • Highly skilled in Budgeting / Forecasting / Profitability Analysis
  • Excellent financial and analytical abilities
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, and other business software skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong supervisory skills.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to prioritize functions and deadlines.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

Strong technical proficiency, communication skills and professional appearance are necessary for this position. Proficiency with a computer, copier/scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment are required. The ability to learn Fiserv Premier, Workiva, Lease Query and other accounting related programs implemented by the Company necessary to perform the job functions as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office.
