Job Description:

The Nurse Extern provides nursing assistance under the continuous, direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. If qualified, she/he may perform tasks that are routinely part of the Patient Care Assistant?s job description. The Nurse Externs may also perform additional tasks, which have been taught in their nursing education program provided they are individually prepared and clinically competent to perform the tasks. The Nurse Extern may not administer medications, accept verbal orders or assume the role, functioning, or responsibility of licensed staff. Must be a junior or senior level student currently enrolled in an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing or BSN program. Recommendation of instructors and verification of competencies required. Current GPA 2.5 or higher. Must have positive attitude, good organizational, customer service and critical thinking skills. Mandatory nonviolent crisis prevention training to be completed prior to end of orientation period and maintained annually.
