Overview:
The Human Services Assistant (HSA) will provide administrative support at The Salvation Army Chartiers Valley Service Center in Carnegie, PA. This position is responsible for assisting clients with Salvation Army vouchers, making decisions regarding the types of service rendered and completing any and all tasks assigned by the Director.

Education and Experience:
- The HSA will follow assessment guidelines and determine the type of voucher assistance and amount rendered to clients who meet government-issued income guidelines for assistance.
- For eligible clients, the HSA will prepare vouchers based upon the committee?s local budget for direct assistance.
- The HSA may not provide more than $200.00 on an individual voucher without approval from the Service Center Director or Service Center Field Representative. The Service Center Field Representative must approve any amount that exceeds $200. Frequent repeat assistance to any one individual is to be avoided.
- Resource referrals for housing, food, and utility assistance.
- Maintain records of client assistance and prepare reports to Service Center Director or Service Center Field Representative, as requested.
- The HSA should be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and should possess skills in Excel for data base record keeping.
- The HSA will be responsible for ordering, reporting, and record-keeping for the Service Center?s food pantry account.
- Producing documents, briefing papers, reports, and presentations.
- Responsible for running and maintaining The Salvation Army Chartiers Valley Service Center?s programming and assistance which includes but is not limited to: Project Bundle Up, Treasures for Children, Sheetz4Kidz, Camp Allegheny, and an annual Back to School Bash.
- Cleaning and organizing of the center.
- The HSA will be responsible for preparing center?s statistical data. This information will be approved by Director and reported to Divisional Headquarters, The Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, donors, and the community.
- Creates and revises systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, recordkeeping systems, forms control, office layout, and budgetary and personnel requirements.
- Assist with Christmas Kettles by transporting bell ringers, picking up/dropping off kettles, and counting kettle money daily.
Account Funds & Budgeting: Assist with the Depository Account for the Chartiers Valley Service Center to collect mail appeal copy information for CVSC records and other local income, including Christmas Kettle collections, in accordance with Salvation Army policies and procedures. Operating Accounts: The following must be done to maintain the Service Unit Operating Account:
- All vouchers must have a receipt before they are paid and only paid to the limit of the dollar value of the voucher.
Additional Responsibilities:
- The HSA is responsible for general office functions, such as mail distribution, answering the main telephone line, photocopying, filing, faxing, and preparing all office correspondence.
- The HSA will assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Service Center Director or Service Center Field Representative.
- The HSA will establish procedures for record keeping ensuring security and confidentiality.
- The HSA will handle the Food Bank operations such as ordering, client registration, pantry inventory, working with volunteers etc.
- A proven ability to work independently.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Must have strong organizational and computer skills.
- Problem Solving.
- Time Management.
- Must have a valid driver?s license.
- Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
- Must be clean and continue to keep the center neat and organized.
- All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Request for Criminal Record, and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
- PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Army's Keep Safe training required.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- Bachelor?s Degree in psychology, sociology, human services or related fields preferred
- Previous experience in social services
- Fundraising experience preferred
