Accelerator Engineer Full-time

at TechSource, Inc. New Mexico in New Mexico (Published at 15-12-2021)

Your Opportunity:

As a full-time Accelerator Engineer for TechSource, you will support Los Alamos National Laboratory?s (LANL) Accelerator Operations and Technology Division (AOT), Radio Frequency Engineering (RFE) group. AOT maintains, operates, and upgrades all accelerator systems used at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) complex, which consists of two 750-keV Cockcroft-Walton-based injector systems (H+ and H? systems), a 201.25-MHz drift tube linear accelerator utilizing high-power diacrode tubes, an 805-MHz coupled cavity linac utilizing klystrons as the primary power source, a proton storage ring, and roughly a kilometer of beam transport lines that feed beam to the five independent research programs. The RFE group is principally responsible for all RF systems, all pulsed power, and all high-power DC power supplies used to operate magnets on the beam transport lines. Low-level RF (LLRF) control and monitoring of the various RF sources used to drive the beam is critical to the high performance and successful operation of the accelerator.

You will develop and implement FPGA designs and FPGA-based software radio RF control systems, which includes custom PCBs and the HDL for the systems. You will interact and coordinate frequently with other engineers and technicians on the LLRF team as well as work closely with other accelerator systems groups (software, instrumentation, and accelerator physics). You will work onsite at LANL, located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

What You will Do:

· Engage in requirements gathering, design, implementation, debugging, testing, and documentation of the engineering design cycle process.

What You Will Need:

· 10 or more years of accelerator, in particular RF systems and RF controls,

· Experience designing and developing high-speed digital printed circuit boards using FPGAs, DRAM, and data converters.

· Master?s degree in engineering. PhD preferred.

· Experience with HDL design of complex signal processing or software radio systems including coding, synthesizing, and simulating RTL implementation in FPGAs.

· Experience with applying and demonstrating engineering design cycle principles.

· Ability to define deliverables and lead projects.
