POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision and guidance of a licensed nurse (RN or LVN/LPN), the MA is responsible for assisting with direct patient care within the scope of the practice, as well as other work in the office which supports the patient needs and environment. Must be fully vaccinated against COVID19.
- The MA assists staff to ensure optimal patient care and assists the healthcare team to provide and maintain a clean, safe, and attractive environment for patients. Work will include components of direct patient care, observation, documentation, transportation of patients and supplies, and general maintenance of the triage department to cohesively run the daily schedule.
- The MA is a team player.
- The MA will report to the assigned facility office manager/supervisor as determined at time of hire.
- The MA will work in various locations/departments as needed.

PRIMARY TASKS & DUTIES
- Promote health, to prevent disease and help patients cope with illness. Serve as an advocate and health educator to patients, families and the community.
- Prepare patients for and assist with examinations, maintain records on the Electronic Medical Record, as well as in the written chart if necessary.
- Ensure confidentiality during visits and telephone contacts and assure the patients understand instructions provided by the physician.
- Provide each patient with the information and understanding needed for their disease process as provided by the Provider or the Nurse.
- Reviews each patient chart before appointments compiling their reason for the office visit, any pertinent records to the visit and collectively flagging in the chart.
- Schedules return appointments for the patients and ensure understanding of these dates and times.
- Obtain vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, weight, height) on all patients and record in chart.
- Notify the supervising Nurse if any abnormality found during initial information intake.
- Checks emergency equipment and supplies, restocking as necessary and checks emergency kits as directed.
- Liable for taking initial and interim history and vital signs.
- Responsible for keeping all medications (sample, retail, vaccines) logged in and within expiration dates; must check and sign off on the log monthly.
- Accountable for notifying their supervisor for any emergencies or unplanned changes in their schedule that require coverage.
- Responsible for maintaining required education by attending in-services provided by the office.
- Any other duties as deemed appropriated by the/ Medical Assistant Nursing Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/KEY COMPETENCIES

- Utilize a wide variety of office technology and tools to collect, enter, process, file patient records and documentation

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Current, unrestricted MA license/registration
- MA licensure/registration in state of practice, as applicable
Professional
- Minimum 1 year experience as MA
- Communication, customer service or working with the general public, preferably in a medical care facility.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Minimum 1 year experience as MA
Physical/Environmental
- Ability to interact with computer screen for up to six hours at a time (visual acuity required).
- Must have manual dexterity for use of keyboard. Ability to stand for periods of up to two hours. Ability to communicate via phone, mail and in person to resolve patient issues.
- Capacity to function in a sometimes stressful, multi-tasking environment.
