Architect III

The Architect is responsible for the identification, analysis and translation of business drivers into business information and technical architecture requirements while providing a customer perspective and input into I/S decisions. Provides overall direction, guidance and definition of an architecture for a defined scope to effectively support the corporate business strategy and realize the target architecture.
Performs work in I/S in some or all of the following Architecture specialties: Enterprise, Data, Infrastructure, Cloud or Security. Has deep technical skills with multiple technologies. Applies advanced skills within progressively widening scope. Maintains knowledge of business processes, emerging technologies and industry trends. The recommendations and decisions made in this position can have significant impact on Enterprise measures and operations, including but not limited to finance, business, I/S capabilities, and direct impact to our customer experience and service. Operates at an advanced technical level. Develops knowledge of multiple technologies and emerging technologies to support strategic initiatives.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Serves in a key leadership role for the I/S Finance and Investments Area's technology modernization efforts while collaborating with other area Architects, Engineers and the Enterprise Architecture Division.
- Performs complex to highly complex architecture activities independently. Creates and executes delivery of architecture principles, practices and patterns. Participates in strategic business and I/S planning activities.
Leads research, analysis, and translation of business drivers into business, information, and technical requirements that can transform a domain. Uses research and awareness of external advances to establish and sustain credibility as an Architecture partner and advisor. - Completes assessments of strategies and initiatives with documented evaluations and recommendations.
- Facilitates what-if / white-boarding sessions to explore and share architecture concepts with peers and stakeholders. Identifies, evaluates and participates in innovation proof of concepts (POCs). Advises on architectural impact and POC considerations.
- Defines overall direction and creates business and enterprise architectures to effectively support business strategy through the delivery of models, frameworks, and other artifacts that guide the organization and effectively support the corporate business strategy.
- Leads, advises and contributes to I/S and business plans and strategies. Called upon by peers to provide unbiased guidance; focusing on enterprise considerations. Develops and executes the enterprise architecture practice.
- Contributes to the creation or maintenance of Architecture Principles, Practices and Patterns. Provides evidence of conceptual designs, models and frameworks.
- Documents contribution to business and technical architectures, strategies and initiatives. Documents proposals addressing current and future state architectural changes that have business and technical impact.
- Coaches others to research and continue learning. Mentors peers and business partners.
- Leads the adoption of architecture concepts across the community. Leads discussion forums and communities (internal/external) to advance the knowledge and understanding of the architectural practice. Collaborates with members of the community to co-create and promote reuse of architecture assessments. Partners with community and teams to promote and govern architecture practices.
Other Expectations:
- Plays a key role in leading and progressing architectural plans and activities in the Area, in alignment with Enterprise goals.
- Work closely and align Finance and Investment Data strategies and tactics with the I/S Data ART.
- Focuses on complex projects and data elements to provide consultation services in the technology space which spans horizontally across business domains to all levels across the organization.
- Contributes to the functional strategy and acts as a thought leader across multiple teams by maintaining a strong working relationship with internal and external partners.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining the Area and data models and partnering with enterprise partners to integrate these models into their designs.
- Provides technical leadership, consulting and authority to accomplish Operation and Division objectives related to the I/S Technology Ambitions.
- Partners with Enterprise, Cloud, Data and Security architects from Mutual of Omaha as well as external business partners to ensure the technology modernization goals are achieved and incorporated in I/S initiatives and practices.
- Ensures system architectures performs at optimal levels while supporting new technologies and requirements.

VALUABLE EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum number of years of experience: 10 to 15 years' experience with Finance, Actuarial and Investments technologies preferred.
- Solid understanding of the organization's business objectives and processes, and what drivers and trends are influencing the industry and ecosystem. Architects have a solid understanding of political and cultural aspects of the organization.
- Experience developing a detailed knowledge of the underlying data and data products and demonstrated ability to become the subject matter expert on content, current and potential future uses of data, and the quality and interrelationship between core elements of the data repositories and data products.
- Learning agility regarding knowledge and applicability of current and emerging cloud best practices and offerings; and ability to leverage that knowledge to contribute to architecture, policies and standards.
