Elementary Grades Aftercare Teacher Full-time

at Prairie Moon Waldorf School Kansas in Kansas (Published at 05-07-2021)

Position Description
The primary responsibility of the Aftercare Teacher is to hold overall responsibility to support the healthy development and progress of the students in the grade school after school program. The Grades Aftercare Teacher represents the school to the parents of the children in the program, providing communication and education regarding the program and practices of after school care. The Grades Aftercare Teacher works with the grade school faculty as applicable in the formation of the program and ensures the school meets the standards established for the program. The Grades Aftercare Teacher implements the successful functioning of the after school care program.

Responsible To: Lead Teachers
Schedule: 3:00 p.m.?5:30 p.m. M-Th, 1:00 p.m.?5:30 p.m. Fr, approx. 16 hours per week. (Dependent on enrollment)
Compensation: $12.00-$14.00/hour base. Commensurate with experience, training, and qualifications.

Summary
The purpose of the Aftercare Program is to support the parents and the students enrolled in Prairie Moon Waldorf School who need a full day program that coincides with the standard work day. The program?s goals are to provide for a healthy environment that allows for nourishment, rest, play, social interaction and study as appropriate. These activities are to follow the principles of Waldorf Education.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensure a healthy, safe and age appropriate program honoring the Waldorf Curriculum and methodology.
  • Hold aftercare program for up to 15 students.
  • Conduct well organized, clear and age appropriate direction and instruction.
  • Recognize, respect and encourage individuality and levels of ability
  • Ensure class discipline and decorum across all activities
  • Ensure a safe physical and emotional environment for all students.
  • Foster and facilitate overall emotional and social health of the individuals and the group as a whole.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with parents
  • Communicate immediately to the parents any issues or concerns, such as behavior, injury as well as provide appropriate documentation to the

school.

  • Respond promptly to questions / suggestions / complaints
  • Uphold school policies and regulations

Other Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Arrange for and provide direction to substitute teachers in after school care program and follow communications process as detailed in School

Management and Safety guidelines

  • Maintain open and honest communication with colleagues
  • Seek help when needed and respond to requests for help in a supportive manner.
  • Maintain a well organized and clean classroom, conducive to learning
  • Supervise classroom, school common areas and playground
  • Organize and supervise classroom set up
  • Maintain professional standards with students, parents and colleagues
  • Bring concerns that impact the well being of the school, including safety, viability and professionalism to the Administrative Director.
  • Respond to requests in a timely manner
  • Maintain copies of all parent communication addressing concerns
  • Mentored by a Grade School Class Teacher (Grade School Mentor)

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelors Degree or equivalent
  • Teaching Experience

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
