Mission: The Kalmar Nyckel Foundation preserves and promotes the cultural and maritime heritage of Delaware and the Delaware Valley for the education and enrichment of all.

TITLE: Assistant Director of Education

DEPARTMENT: Executive

SUPERVISOR: Director of Education

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full time

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: The Assistant Director of Education is primarily responsible for the delivery of the Foundation?s education mission through on-site, off-site, and virtual program implementation as well as overall management of the KNF education programs. Target audiences include students, schools, community youth groups, families, and the general public.The Assistant Director enhances the reputation of Kalmar Nyckel Foundation within the regional education community.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Manage distribution of KNF educational programs and content using the Ship, the Copeland Maritime Center and campus, as well as off-site school and other venues and electronic media;
  • In keeping with Director?s annual management objectives and goals, market, book, and oversee implementation of school field trips and other group visits to the Ship and Copeland Maritime Center, as well as off-site school, virtual, and other programming;
  • Teach KNF educational programs to a broad range of students and adults from diverse backgrounds;
  • Assure adequate delivery capacity to achieve goals, including volunteer recruitment, training, retention, and recognition;
  • Assist Director to develop new sources of funding for education programs;
  • Assist Director to develop and refresh high quality educational content inspired by the tall ship Kalmar Nyckel as well as Delaware?s maritime heritage and Wilmington?s riverfront;
  • Assist Director, in liaison with Department of Education and relevant professional associations, to maintain expertise in curriculum standards used by potential client audiences for KNF educational and historical programs to ensure that programs are germane to those audiences;
  • Develop and monitor customer feedback for continuous improvement;
  • Enhance the reputation of KNF as a valued participant in the relevant scholarly community.
  • Model and assure the exemplification of the KNF Code of Conduct and Child Safety Policy throughout the KNF education programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least three (3) to five (5) years of classroom teaching experience (or comparable), plus experience in program development and implementation, curriculum development and technology integration;
  • Grant writing a plus;
  • Master?s Degree in Education or relevant field experience preferred, with indication of serious interest in scholarship.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $37,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
