Golf Course Construction Superintendent

Landscapes Unlimited is seeking an individual to work as a Golf Course Superintendent.
The Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing total construction efforts to ensure the project is constructed in a safe manner and in accordance with design, budget, and schedule; directs all construction operations following established schedules, specifications, and procedures; provides on-site management and representation for the Company to ensure quality completion of project; may be first in command on small project or assisting in managing of larger scope projects with a Superintendent III.

Essential Job Functions
- Plans project start up and mobilization of crews according to schedule.
- Manages work crews to ensure assigned tasks are executed safely, on time and in accordance with Company quality standards.
- Coordinates the scheduling and phases of construction and irrigation installation for the project; inspects all phases of construction and irrigation installation to ensure Company quality standards are met.
- Collaborates with the Project Manager, General Superintendent, or other superintendents to coordinate all phases of the project; plans work assignments and resources for actual and future needs.
- Collaborates with the Project Manager to ensure the project is completed in a safe manner and in accordance with budget, schedule, design, and specification requirements; clarifies any discrepancies in the design plan or specifications with the Project Manager.
- Ensures jobsite equipment and property (owned and rented) is properly operated and maintained; communicates equipment or property damage as well as service or repair needs according to Company guidelines.
- Reviews and continuously monitors and updates the project schedule as necessary.
- Manages and ensures completion of all on-site administrative duties, i.e., purchase orders, time sheets, expense reports, daily report, as-builts, time and material, hiring, performance standards and the like.
- Coordinates all project work and services with sub-contractors and vendors; manages and coordinates all sub-contractor work to ensure scope of work is completed per project requirements; collaborates with Project Manager to resolve any issues with sub-contractors or vendors.
- Provides and or coordinates all on-the-job training to assistants, foremen, operators, and general staff based on identified project needs or skill gaps; completes required training including new employee and safety orientation sessions.
- Manages all aspects of employee logistics including short and or long-term lodging, relevant travel expenses and reimbursements, and travel to the jobsite on arrival (as needed).
- Manages all aspects of the project specific safety program according to company guidelines; acts as the onsite safety officer and serves as the competent person for when required by specific construction activities.
- Manages relationships with architects, owners, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure successful project completion; informs the Project Manager immediately of any disputes with Owners, Architects, Sub-contractors or employees; collaborates with appropriate individuals to bring positive resolution.
- Manages inventory and cost control to ensure profitability of project; assists in completion of billings, change orders, and time and materials forms.
- Collaborates with all company departments to ensure required materials, equipment and administrative functions support the project schedule.
- Ensures job site compliance according to federal, state and local government regulations.
- Completes punch list items for close out as determined; coordinates de-mobilization of project site including construction yard tear-down, inspection and shipping of equipment, completion of administrative close-out, and owner/client communication.
- Ensures all project as-builts are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Performs work in a safe manner and in compliance with all Company safety standards and the directions of supervisors.
- Demonstrates a commitment to the work and success of the project and the Company by being solution-oriented, having positive interactions with all members of the team, and meeting quality, production and safety expectations set by the supervisor or Superintendent.

- Knowledge of golf course and or sportsfield construction tasks and execution sequence.
- Knowledge and ability to read, understand, and apply principles of project safety, budget, schedule, and design and specification requirements in managing the project.
- Knowledge and ability to plan and assign work assignments for multiple crews, monitor progress to ensure quality standards are met; schedules are followed, and to eliminate waste and rework.
- Knowledge and ability to perform and or supervise staking/layout, finishing, greens, tees & bunkers, equipment operation, drainage installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge and ability to train project staff on staking/layout, finishing, greens, tees & bunkers, equipment operation, drainage installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge and ability to perform and train project staff on equipment maintenance procedures: daily inspections, greasing of parts, preventative maintenance and safe operating procedures.
- Knowledge and ability to complete and process all administrative paperwork: Superintendents daily log, as-builts, new hire paperwork, time sheets, expense reports, purchase orders, purchasing card statements, and change orders.
- Knowledge and ability to use the following computer software programs; MS Outlook, MS Project, and MS Excel.
- High level of interpersonal communication skills with strong customer orientation.
- Self-discipline on time management, organization and prioritization of tasks and projects; ability to complete work in an accurate and thorough manner.
- Ability to identify problems, analyze them, and bring positive resolution.
- Ability to understand and perform verbal and or written direction from the Project Manager or other leadership staff to complete project to specifications.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply math i.e. percentages and square footage as it is used in the construction industry.
- Must maintain a professional appearance consistent with the position; represents the company in a professional manner at all times with employees, owners, architects, subcontractors, and the general public.
- Ability and willingness to follow all Company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Safety Manual.
- Demonstrates a sense of ownership in the work and commitment to the success of the project and the Company.
- Ability to work cooperatively with fellow employees and supervisors and respect the rights of others.
- Ability and willingness to work in outdoor elements: hot & cold temperatures, rain, mud, dust, noise, sun, thick underbrush, etc.
- Ability to manipulate and move individual tools and equipment; walk entire job site.
- Ability and willingness to work average 55 hour work weeks; willingness to travel for undetermined intervals.
Education and Experience
- Two to three years experience in golf course construction or golf course maintenance field.
- One to three years experience in a supervisory or leadership position in golf course, turf or construction management.
- Bachelor s degree in landscape architecture, turf or construction management; equivalent experience may be substituted for education.
- Experience operating rubber tire equipment such as tractors, loaders and trucks in golf course or sportsfield construction, or earthwork construction operations such as land development.
- Requires a valid driver s license and insurability under the company s motor vehicle insurance policy.
