Forklift Operator

POSITION SUMMARY:
Forklift Operator operates a forklift to stack and retrieve supplies and materials.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Essential:
· Must have basic math, reading and writing abilities.
· Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
· Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 - 50 pounds with minimal effort following required safety guidelines.
· Must be able to tolerate sudden and extreme changes in temperatures.
· Must be able to climb on a ladder the distance of 5 feet to reach stored items and carry them to the floor.
· Must bend or stoop frequently at many intervals during the day.
· Must be able to twist and rotate 180 degrees during each day.
· Must be able to follow the Health Standards of the food service industry.
· Must be able to stand for at least 8 hours a day.
· Must be able to operate a forklift by moving levers, pressing pedals, and controlling the movement of the lifting apparatus.
· Marginal:
· One year of experience operating a forklift.
· One year experience in food service industry.
· Knowledge of and experience in practicing proper safety standards in handling food and equipment.
POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:
Forklift Operator is directly supervised by the Lead Forklift Operator and has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
Essential functions of the job are indicated by the main headings outlined by whole numbers. Standards of performance are stated as subheadings outlined by decimal numbers.
- Operates gasoline powered industrial forklift to move products or materials within the plant.
- Moves levers and presses pedals to drive and control forklift movement and lifting apparatus.
- Positions forks, lifting platforms, or other lifting devise under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, or boxes and transports load to designated area.
- Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
- Performs a variety of duties in loading, unloading, and moving materials within the plant.
- Moves product and supplies from storage area to supply Packout.
- Moves and stores products and supplies for Production as needed.
- Moves and stores products coming off the blast line in the 4 Whole Meal Freezer.
- Moves finished packaged product from Packout and place in proper storage freezer.
- Unloads products and supplies from trucks and put away in proper storage locations
- Loads products and supplies onto trucks.
- Follows all safety policies and procedures.
- Wears appropriate safety equipment as required by departmental regulations.
- Keeps floors in freezer, blast freezer, and storage areas clean and free of debris.
- Operates all equipment in a responsible manner observing all safety rules.
- Inspects and completes checklist on forklift daily
- Follows plant rules including but not limited to attire, cleanliness, and hand washing.
- Re-seals products not sealed properly.
- Documents and maintains inventory to insure proper rotation of goods and supplies.
- Rotates new products and supplies into the Whole Meal Freezer.
- Rotates old products and supplies out of the Whole Meal Freezer.
- Returns products and supplies to proper storage location from Pack and verify that product is properly rotated.
- Completes all necessary paperwork accurately an in a timely manner.
- Assists Inventory Control Manager and Freezer, Forklift Supervisor as required.
- 5.15 Performs other assigned duties as instructed by management.
