Professional Engineer - Electrical Full-time

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Facilities Engineering-Electrical team in downtown Saint Paul as a Professional Engineer! As a member of our team, you will work alongside a multi-disciplined team of Architects, Mechanical, Electrical, and Structural Engineers and Technicians to provide an array of services for a number of unique building projects throughout the country, ranging from lecture halls and educational facilities, to industrial plants and refineries, which provide you with opportunities that include variety and challenging responsibilities.

You will be responsible for scoping the electrical engineering portions of projects and leading the design efforts associated with the projects, along with developing detailed drawings, which will include site plans, power/signal/lighting plans, equipment layouts, plan layouts, industrial controls and control systems, primary and secondary electrical distribution, transformers, lighting, communications, and energy conservation. You will also assist with construction administration responsibilities including interpreting plans, observing construction operations, and maintaining reports to ensure construction conforms to plans and specifications.

Note: To be considered for this opportunity and to perform the assigned responsibilities, candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must be able to complete and pass any background, security, and drug test requests required by TKDA, clients, and state and/or federal agencies.

Required Qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Minnesota or the ability to obtain registration within one year of employment.
  • Five to ten years of previous experience with an emphasis on building and industrial facility power/lighting/signal design.
  • Previous experience with responding to Requests for Proposals, including estimating electrical design fees.
  • Previous experience with inspection, evaluation, construction estimates, and written reports for building electrical distribution system equipment assessments.
  • Previous design and construction administration experience with building power distribution and control system design in Industrial plants, including layout and design of 208 volt to medium voltage switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, UPS, generators, and motor control equipment including FVNR/FVR/RV Starters, VFDs, SMCs, and associated control circuitry.
  • Previous experience conducting construction administration services including bidding assistance, submittal review, leading construction meetings, construction observation, and inspection activities.
  • Previous experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Power Point) software.
  • Previous experience and strong working knowledge of SKM Power Tools for short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies.
  • Previous experience working with other disciplines: Architecture, Civil, Mechanical, Structural, and Planners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills; Ability to write specifications and reports and lead and/or participate in discussions during client consultations and project team meetings.
  • Ability to travel as needed (up to 20%) for team meetings, client consultations, and site inspections/visits; Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications.

  • Previous design experience for industrial facility underground/overhead medium voltage (13.8kV) site power distribution systems.
  • Previous design experience with synchronous motor installation, startup, and analysis.
  • Previous design experience with Piping and Instrument Diagrams, Loop Sheets, and instrumentation and control panel specification, layout, startup and commissioning.
  • Previous experience with configuration and/or programming of Programmable Logic Controllers, VFDs, and Instrumentation.
  • Previous design experience with medium voltage switchgear relay setup, configuration, and uploading.
  • Previous experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Previous experience in project management.
