Laboratory Research Specialist Full-time

The Aging Institute at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Laboratory Specialist.

The Laboratory Specialist will work in a state-of-the-art, internationally recognized research program in the areas of inflammation, metabolism and drug discovery. Under the supervision of the PI, the Laboratory Specialist is responsible for executing experiments with independence. The incumbent will be expected to troubleshoot technical issues, execute statistical analyses, and present data at internal meetings. The communication of results, issues, and needs with team members is necessary.

The Specialist will also be responsible for training new hires entering the lab on the local protocols and will have a leadership position among lab personnel for organization and execution of experiments.

This position requires significant experience in biochemical/molecular techniques such as:
  • immunocytochemistry
  • protein/protein interaction studies
  • western blots
  • PCR
  • cloning
  • DNA/ RNA preparation

Multi-tasking several experiments simultaneously and efficient time management is necessary. Many of the responsibilities described above will be self-initiated and require a high level of vigilance. Meticulous work habits, dependability, and good communication skills are required. Must be flexible and well organized in managing multiple tasks, and able to clearly document data and activities in a lab notebook.

This position is located at Bridgeside Point 1, 100 Technology Drive.

Education Required Baccalaureate Minimum Related Experience Level Required 2-3 years experience Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor’s degree in biologic or chemical science. Understanding of basic lab techniques is required. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Skill/experience with cell culture
  • Prior experience in Pharma industry
Required Licenses/Certifications Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
