Application Engineer Full-time

Position Summary

Technical sales role supporting our sales channels to achieve profitable sales growth in assigned territories by matching solutions to client requirements. Activities will include customer visits, lab testing, quoting, negotiating, order entry, contract handover, site service and commissioning. Maintain strict adherence to high ethical business standards and applicable governmental laws, regulations and codes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support direct and indirect sales channels to achieve sales and margin targets in assigned territories assisting in sales forecasting.
  • Analyze customer application requirements, performing research and commissioning laboratory testing to propose suitable equipment for customer needs.
  • Work with sales agents to formulate the technical solution and support them in presenting the Rotex value proposition at the customer site.
  • Assist the Regional Sales Manager in development and management of sales agents.
  • Collate technical reports and product proposals highlighting the Rotex value proposition for presentation to customers either directly, or through sales representatives.
  • Initiate and coordinate follow-up of sales leads, inquiries and proposals
  • Proactively promote all product lines to meet the goals and expectations as defined in sales plans looking to ‘up-sell’ wherever possible.
  • Resolve client application problems either remotely or by site attendance.
  • Carry out on-site testing and analysis where required.
  • Commission laboratory testing and/or analysis on equipment or media when required as part of the research, proposal development, problem solving process.
  • Analyze market conditions, develop and carry out action plans to protect/build market share in allocated territories and segments.
  • Develop segment application expertise and share with organization.
  • Use CRM to maintain up-to-date records of customer activity, quotes, sales pipeline and as a key form of communications media within Rotex.
  • Assist the Aftermarket Sales Department to actively promote and sell aftermarket parts.
  • Review and prepare machine orders for order entry ensuring the scope of supply and all commercial and technical requirements are clearly highlighted at the kick off meeting. Assist in order entry and follow up through shipments of the product.
  • Arrange and engage in domestic/international travel to support selling and marketing activities outlined above.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement activities to improve Company processes and products.
  • Assist in technical training of sales representatives.
  • Prepare budget recommendations and adhere to authorized budgets. Be aware of and take advantage of opportunities for savings.
  • Perform other assignments or duties appropriate to the overall responsibility of the position of Application Engineer.
  • Any other reasonable instructions from Line Management or Directors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Degree level in specialist area (Engineering / Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent experience



  • Customer facing / presentational skills with experience in attending client site meetings matching engineering solutions to client need
  • Experience of working in a Technical Sales role within an international manufacturing company providing engineered applications


  • Understanding of and experience within a lean environment beneficial


Travel up to 30% of the time.
