Onsite Customer Support, Financial Counseling Full-time

Providence is calling a Onsite Customer Support , Financial Counseling to Providence Health & Services in Anchorage, AK.

We are seeking a Onsite Customer Support / Financial Counseling to report directly to the Financial Counseling Supervisor, and is responsible for providing onsite customer support services for staff members, and other customers, as well as providing excellent customer service. The Onsite Customer Support person balances and posts all incoming money for the various departments in the medical center, as well as patient payments, and performs all duties in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects the Sisters of Providence mission and philosophy. This role also serves as a back up to Financial Counseling and provides assistance in the following areas: Pulling Credit checks, Processing Financial Applications for our patients and making approvals on smaller balance accounts when application is presented at the Hospital Window, Assist in Enrollment for Oregon Health Plan and Federal Marketplace and Back-ups Hospital Financial Counselors on WQs and Screening patients when necessary. This position is the Face Front for Providence Oregon Business Servcies Customer Care department and assists patients in person with any needs they present with, Including billing and customer services issues, Financial Assistance, Payment plans etc.

In this position you will:

  • Act as cashier for staff, and accepts patient payments.
  • On a daily basis, reconciles large volume of cash that is received; through the mail, walk-in patient payments, and the various medical center departments, and prepares the bank deposit.
  • Act as front line triage for Financial Counselors, pulling credit reports as needed, making payment arrangements based on certain guidelines. Assists in processing Financial Assistance applications for patients. Approves charity care for patients based on a dollar threshold. Provides help to the Hospital Financial Counselors with OHP enrollments, WQs and screening/interview patients when short staffed or help is needed.
  • Post all of walk-in patient payments, Lifeline and General Ledger payments and enters these into the computer.
  • Prepare daily batching of payments that are sent by mail to and sends to the Regional Business Office.
  • Distribute and records petty cash transactions.
  • Respond to customer service inquiries from patients, guarantors, physician offices and other service partners.
  • Greet customers promptly, courteously and professionally. Answers minimal account inquiries.
  • As customers need more information regarding charges on their accounts, refer them to the Financial Counselor as appropriate, for resolution.
  • Coordinates daily delivery of appropriate documents to the Regional Business Office
  • Prepare log for Armor car pickup.
  • Assist patient with Medicaid Applications (OHPs) and enrollment of programs as a Certified Assister.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school graduate, college-level course
  • Clerical and computer experience

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Healthcare experience
  • Cash handing experience
  • Prior Customer Service collection experience
  • Epic experience
