Position: Production Manager
Location: Fairfield, Ohio
Job Type: Full-Time, Salary
Work Hours: Monday through Friday – business hours
Travel: Minimal

Availability: As issues impacting the fulfillment of business objectives develop, the ability to work overtime or weekends and respond to requests to be at the facility as needed to correct issues impeding customer production.

Summary: A highly visible leadership role that directs and coordinates activities connected to the production of company product(s) by directing and coordinating the activities of team members engaged in repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment. In conjunction with other managers, develops plans for maintenance of buildings, grounds and utility systems of the plant, by performing the duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Your Contribution: Plans and directs production activities, establishing production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors. Confers with management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, and the development of the budget and financial cost controls.

Production:
  • Bachelor degree (B.A.); or one to two related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines and equipment
  • Proficiency in performing all job duties within established safety guidelines is required
  • Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications, and operating or production problems
  • Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating challenges and improve product quality
  • Revises production schedules and priorities created by equipment failure or operating difficulties
  • Consults with engineering personnel relative to the modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and product quality
  • Compiles, stores and retrieves production data
  • Plans, develops and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs and effect greater utilization of labor and materials
  • Reviews new product plans and discusses equipment needs and modifications with design engineers
  • Requisitions tools, equipment and supplies required for operations
  • Directs training and indoctrination of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures
  • Confers with management, engineering and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment
  • Assist the American Institute of Baking (AIB) Coordinator and Committee in ensuring that the company meets or exceeds AIB standards especially in the areas of engineering and maintenance
  • Ensures that the maintenance staff and subcontractors abide by Honeymoon Paper Products, Inc., (HPPI) and AIB regulations and maintains and files appropriate documentation
  • Conducts hearings to resolve or effect settlement of grievances and refers unresolved grievances to management
  • Prepares department budgets and monitors expenditures of funds in budgets across production and maintenance
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Maintenance:
  • Reviews job orders to determine work priorities. Schedules repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment to ensure continuous operation of production
  • Coordinates activities of workers fabricating or modifying machines, tools or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products
  • Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, air or water required for operations
  • Develops preventative maintenance program in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff
  • Reviews production, quality control and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities
  • Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards
  • Promotes safety in the plant by participating in safety committees, training employees in safety practices and policy, enforcing safety policy, contributing suggestions that would add to the safety of the plant and any other activity that would contribute to the general safety of all team members in the facility

  • Read, analyze and interpret general business publications, professional journals, correspondence, technical procedures or government regulations.   • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
  • Proficiency in solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Capable of interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
Physical Requirements and Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Discern audible instructions or machinery hums, reverberations, vibrations and so on
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
