CADD Support Specialist Full-time

VDOT’s Location and Design (L&D) Division has an employment opportunity for a key team member in our Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) Support Section. This important position is responsible for providing technical support on all of the Department of Transportation’s CADD software packages including Bentley’s OpenRoads and ProjectWise. Duties include, but are not limited to: testing CADD software patches and enhancements; providing highway engineering and roadway design assistance; interpreting design policies, procedures, and standards to ensure that accurate designs are being produced by the software packages; coordinating with other technical resources and expert staff to resolve hardware, software, or system issues; assisting with maintaining and updating the CADD User’s Manual and CADD standards; providing administrator and technical assistance for VDOT’s ProjectWise document management system; providing assistance with scheduling of all CADD related training; providing software licenses to private sector consulting firms and maintaining the license database; contacting vendors as needed to report system malfunctions; and interacting with IT staff to enhance program objectives and product deliverables. The selected candidate will also be responsible for researching, developing, and implementing innovative technologies and methods to enhance operations and computer systems, to include 3-D highway design and modeling software.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience with engineering and CADD software programs such as MicroStation and GEOPAK/OpenRoads. Basic knowledge of highway engineering design policies, procedures, and standards. Skilled in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite. Skilled in problem solving techniques and providing good customer service. Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as strong presentation skills. Ability to travel overnight on occasion.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or a related engineering degree, computer science, information systems, or information technology degree is preferred; or related training and/or equivalent work experience may substitute for degree. A demonstrated proficiency in Bentley’s OpenRoads and ProjectWise is preferred.

Special Requirements

Fingerprint-based Criminal History background check and DMV record check are required.
