DevOps Reliability Engineer - MaritzCX Full-time

We are looking for an experienced DevOps engineer with a focus on site reliability (SRE) who is passionate about all aspects of DevOps including menial task automation, configuration management, application lifecycle management, microservices in containers, and software development focused on platform health, scalability, performance, and efficiency. This engineer will join the team of professionals responsible for building and supporting the leading “Customer Experience” SaaS platform. This platform spans datacenters around the world and is built using a combination of Microsoft and open source languages and tools.


In this role, you’ll work to provide solutions that remove technical efficiency barriers within and between the development and operations teams. As needed, the candidate will also write custom software to fill gaps that existing tools can’t. Working with the teams to expose health status at every level of the platform and provide methods to easily consume and display the results and metrics will be a major goal. As insight into platform health grows, the candidate will provide recommendations and solutions for bolstering stability and performance.


In addition to site reliability, you’ll participate in a small cross-functional group to facilitate rapid and stable software deployment for our SaaS platform. To accomplish this, the engineer should have a strong understanding of the tools and processes involved in continuously building, testing, and deploying software to Windows and Linux environments. There is also a day-to-day support element where troubleshooting systems, tools, and processes will be needed as problems arise. The candidate should have strong collaboration and communication skills while working with members of other technical teams. Attention to detail and a strong aversion to cutting corners is critical!


Responsibilities:

  • Work with developers and sysops to put custom monitoring hooks in place throughout the platform
  • Develop custom tools to fill gaps in health and usage monitoring that are specific to our platform.
  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of configuration management, application delivery, and overall environment automation.
  • Automate menial Windows and Linux systems administration tasks
  • Provide git workflow and troubleshooting support.
  • Coordinate software testing and deployments with other team members.
  • Effectively address incidents and work requests.
  • Work with DevOps lead to incorporate new tools and processes that will improve overall automation within the environment.
  • Assist in periodic after-hours software releases.

Desired Skills:

  • Programming and scripting concepts (C#, Python, PowerShell, Bash).
  • Windows/Linux system administration.
  • Experience with custom application monitoring hooks and proper retrieval of data from them.
  • Familiarity with application monitoring tools like New Relic, Dynatrace, and SolarWinds.
  • Strong understanding of continuous integration, delivery, and deployment concepts.
  • CI tools (Jenkins, TeamCity).
  • Configuration management with SaltStack.
  • Strong understanding of git source control concepts.
  • Windows package management with NuGet and Chocolatey.
  • Broad understanding of network protocols, at all layers of the stack.
  • Knowledge of IT best practices for an always-up, always-available service.
  • Strong communication and ability to bring team members together in understanding the goal of building and shipping software.
  • Troubleshooting and analytical skills.
