General mills is seeking a Manufacturing Manager in Albuquerque, NM to play an integral role in maintaining a strong business partnership with the plant leadership group in driving overall plant results including driving continuous improvement efforts and a Zero Loss Culture. The Manufacturing Manager will serve as a coach of active line teams in the department, a leader on the plant Central Safety Committee and a critical link to the Minneapolis HQ business and supply chain leadership teams.
The General Mills Albuquerque facility is a high performing plant with 380 employees that serves both the Cereal and Snack divisions. The Cereal department has three production systems and the Snacks department has two production lines, Crunchy and Chewy. We have a four-crew structure where our Technicians will operate, maintain and clean their systems to deliver over 330 operating days per year.
This role has seven direct Reports (two Line Leads and five Team Operations Leaders) and is responsible for the Operations department including providing direction and development to the cross functional team and 128 technicians.
  • Coach, develop and inspire work group to achieve required Human Safety, Food Safety, and Production Results.
  • Develop short and long term strategies to drive, productivity, organizational effectiveness and improvements in key plant priorities and metrics.
  • Create an environment where all employees are encouraged and developed to reach their full potential in meeting department/business goals. Build capability at the operator level in the organization.
  • Foster a strong working partnership with all functions to support plant objectives.
  • Ensure efficient, safe, and sanitary processing and packaging working towards zero losses.
  • Ensure that production facilities and finished products meet the company and government standards of quality, sanitation and safety.
  • Provide business leadership that demonstrates commitment to department and plant goals on a day to day basis.
  • Ensure effective interchange of information between operations department and support resources at the plant and from within General Mills (GMI). Participate on the Operations Team, including developing and leading divisional efforts and influencing decisions that will impact the plant.
  • Ensure the proper selection, training, development and motivation of the team to maximize current and future performance.
  • Contribute as an integral part of the plant leadership team to drive the plant strategy and culture.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Business or Management majors preferred
  • 7-10+ years manufacturing or related experience
  • Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment or other applicable experience
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with the floor including building positive employee relations and developing a Zero Loss Culture
  • Effectively delivered results through others by managing salaried employees and/or leading cross-functional teams
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to effectively lead change
  • Ability to create and lead strategic initiatives
  • Solid business judgment including demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of technology (i.e. complexities of products, machinery, and costs)
  • Good financial analysis and resource allocation skills; experience developing productivity pipeline is preferred
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Develop and manage a budget
