Emergency Care Center Technician Full-time

Southeast Georgia Health System has an opportunity for a Emergency Care Technician to join our Emergency Care Center team!

Summary: Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse, the Emergency Care Center Technician performs a variety of duties in the care and treatment of infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, sets up and operates patient care equipment and provides specialized assistance to the professional staff in caring and treating patients. All team members of Southeast Georgia Health System will promote a culture of safety, follow established policies, and adhere to all state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission requirements, and national patient safety standards.

Performs routine EKGs, Holter Monitor applications, B/P monitor applications, Code Blue functions, and other monitoring situations in the emergency care center.
Accurately and timely reports observations to the nurse and records, accurately and routinely, all vital signs or other pertinent information for the nurse.
Demonstrates competent Foley catheter insertion using the sterilization technique.
Demonstrates awareness of environmental stimuli and seeks to minimize harmful or stressful factors (i.e. noise, temperature, light and odors). Provides for the privacy of patients and families and keeping the safety of the patient in mind.
Demonstrates basic knowledge/use of principles underlying nursing care and assists the patient to meet his/her basic needs. Demonstrates correct procedure and positioning for the transport of patients and those requiring isolation, either protective or infectious.
Demonstrates competent venipuncture techniques and utilizes correct procedure for the collection, labeling, and transport of specimens.
Assists in teaching patients self care, to include crutch walking, catheter care, and splint care, and encourages patients to achieve independence within their limitations.
Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency. Consistently assists with care and maintenance of supplies and equipment.

The ideal Emergency Care Technician candidate should posses the following minimal qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Prior experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant, PCA, or EMT preferred.
CNA or EMT preferred.
Demonstrates positive interpersonal communication skills and be organized.
Must demonstrate proficiency in taking and recording vital signs and in venipuncture.
Current American Heart Association BLS Certification required.
