Prescriptions Specialist

We are a fast-paced cardiology office with five (5) dynamic providers urgently seeking one (1) Prescriptions Specialist with one (1) or more years of experience. We are looking for Dependable, Meticulous, Professional, and Customer-service oriented individual to join our team at our National City location. Responsibilities:

Process check-out orders:

  • Double check that order matches the doctors? notes for the date of service
  • Obtain Prior Authorization (PA) for medications:

---Identify the insurance so correct forms are use
---Call or check portals for insurance authorization
---Once medication is approved; upload approval to patient's chart, call pharmacy to run prescription, and notify patient medication is ready to be picked-up
---Follow-up on authorizations pending list and contact insurance to check status

Process requests for medication from in-house cardiologists, as well as, refill requests from pharmacies:

  • Review patients? Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to confirm correct medication is documented on doctor?s order or pharmacy fax request
  • Check care plan if there are any changes to dosages or discontinuations of medications (Contact doctor before alerting patient about discontinuing any medication)

Respond to questions from patients about their medications

  • Reference EMR to answer questions

--- Make sure the patients have enough refills, at least until next visit
---Keep accurate records of patient calls

Oversee distribution of medication samples

  • Manage inventory system
  • Provide samples to patients
  • Contact pharmaceutical reps when supplies run low
  • If needed, send Acknowledgment of Content (AOC) to pharmaceutical companies upon receipt of samples

Maintain a patient prescription log

Schedule lunches with pharmaceutical reps

Communicate questions with doctors

Continuously educate yourself on relevant medications

Overall Employee Responsibilities:

  • Serve patients by greeting them and other customers (e.g., caregivers and doctors, etc.) in a friendly, respectful, professional manner
  • Comfort patients by anticipating their anxieties; being calm and empathetic; answering their questions, and/or alerting others in the organization that can do that
  • Communicate well with HWC employees and outside callers (e.g., patients, medical assistants, doctors, pharmaceutical reps, etc) regarding variety of issues
  • Serve and protect the practice by adhering to professional standards; facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements
  • Come into work and be ready for duty by 8am
  • Always consider how we can improve patient experience

Position Requirements:

  • High School education or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of office experience (in clinic, hospital, or pharmacy setting preferred)
  • Office administration, secretarial, or receptionist training preferred
  • Completion of a formal programs such as: Certified Medication Technician Program, Certified Medical Assistant Program, Medical Assistant Certification, or Pharmacy Technician Certification a plus.
  • Cardiology experience a plus
  • Strong skills set needed. Must be: detail-oriented and accurate, a good communicator, customer-service focused, organized, able to use good judgement, trustworthy, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and able to follow general HIPAA policies and procedures
  • Type at least 35 wpm
  • Computer knowledge required. EMR experience, esp in Office Ally preferred. Proficiency in Google Docs, Excel and Microsoft Office a plus.

Schedule: Full-time hours between 8am and 5:00pm M-F

Pay: $16.00+ per hour
