Principal Reliability Engineer (Controls) Full-time

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal Reliability Engineer (Controls) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.
In this role, the selected candidate will:
  • Gather a deep understanding of the infrastructure systems throughout the South Bay facilities, including mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Work under general direction and independently determine/develop approaches to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.

  • Perform periodic reviews of the infrastructure systems throughout the South Bay facilities and identify areas of reliability concerns and with high risk of failure.

  • Oversee the Tridium Niagara Building Management System (BMS) to ensure that the system is configured and functioning properly.

  • Write and review control Sequences of Operation SOO for HVAC equipment.

  • Analysis of the Maintenance Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure high integrity of the centralized information and identify opportunities for improvement of the existing processes.

  • Participate in construction design reviews of infrastructure equipment, especially how it pertains to the integrating new systems into the existing BMS.

  • Inspects or directs the inspection of construction and installation progress throughout the project lifespan to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.

  • Lead the root cause/fault mode analysis of electrical infrastructure equipment failures throughout the campus and provide documentation of those findings.

  • Interface with the Facilities Maintenance department personnel as required to identify potential maintenance engineering issues (on existing equipment and new construction) and to mitigate risks.

  • Coordinates with Facilities Project Leaders and architecture/engineering firms in developing/reviewing design criteria and/or layout and detail drawings.

  • Reviews data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions, required completion date, and construction feasibility.

  • Support the Facilities Reliability and Infrastructure Optimization department as required.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) field and five (5) years of engineering experience with an emphasis on control systems OR a Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) field and three (3) years of engineering experience with an emphasis on control systems; OR a PhD

  • Experience working with Building Management Systems (BMS) and related control systems.

  • Experience designing and/or analyzing control systems to configure proper HVAC controls for a facility.

  • Ability to work under general direction and independently determine/develop approaches to solutions.

  • Experience communicating requirements and working with internal and external customers to coordinate difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance up to a DoD TS/SCI with SSBI.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using IBM MAXIMO or a similar CMMS tool.

  • Experience working in a mission critical facility environment by participating in design, construction, commissioning, or miscellaneous supporting activities for control systems.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer or current engineer-in-training (EIT) certificate.

  • Familiarity working with complex facilities infrastructure feeding clean rooms/labs, offices, and manufacturing spaces.

  • At least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:

  • Dept of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years

  • OR SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years

  • OR Dept of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years
