The Equipment Operator A is responsible for operating equipment and trucks with a gross vehicle weight of up to 32,000 lbs., to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of a State Mental Health Hospital.

  • Work a rotating day shift (7:00 am to 3:00 pm; 6:45 am to 2:45 pm; or 8:00 am to 4:00 pm) including every 3rd or 4th weekend

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position's primary purpose is to provide on-grounds transportation for consumers, although other duties will be assigned as appropriate. Works 7:00am to 3:00pm and 8:00am to 4:00pm every 3rd or 4th weekend on rotating shifts.
Operates trucks, buses, vans, tractors, dump trucks, steel-wheeled rollers, fork lifts, front-end loaders, etc., with a GVW of up to 32,000 lbs.
Operates tractor-mounted grass mowers and performs other related duties to ensure the grounds are maintained in a safe and attractive condition.
Transports consumers, employees, food, laundry, furniture, storeroom supplies, drugs, equipment, building materials, etc., both on and off campus.
Sanitizes vehicles/trucks weekly, or as needed.
Operates equipment such as snow plows, snow blowers, deicing equipment, etc. in the performance of snow and/or ice removal.
Performs manual work using both powered and non-powered tools, such as jackhammers, drills, hammers, saws, etc., appropriate to the construction and/or maintenance trades.
Loads and unloads trucks, cleans streets and catch basins, cuts and trims grass and brush.
Completes safety checks and inspections of equipment prior to leaving grounds in accordance with DOT regulations.
Performs general maintenance of equipment/vehicles to include cleaning the interior and exterior, waxing, performing minor repairs and preventive maintenance, and/or assists the automotive mechanic making major repairs to equipment, in order to maintain equipment/vehicles in a safe and functioning condition.
Demonstrates the operation of assigned equipment to other employees.
Performs other related work as required.
Obtains and maintains CPR Certification and utilizes skills as necessary.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements - Six months of experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or an equivalent combination of experience or training.
  • Necessary Special Requirement - Must possess a valid Class C driver's license
  • Employee will have 6 months from the date of hire to obtain the necessary CDL.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position comes under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act. Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to PA State Police and FBI clearance.
  • You must pass a background investigation
  • A conditional offer of employment will require successful completion of a medical examination.
