Public Health EPIDEMIOLOGIST II Full-time

SCOPE OF WORK

Under the general supervision of the Tribal Epidemiology Center (TEC) Epidemiologist III /Program Manager at ITCA, Inc. the Epidemiologist II effectively provides American Indian Tribes in Arizona, Utah, and Nevada with epidemiologic and evaluation expertise regarding public health infrastructure while responsible for providing training and technical support to ITCA health programs and Tribal partners. This position will require travel for site visits to Tribes, regional trainings, and national conferences. This position will interface with key stakeholder groups, including: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention?s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion as well as State and Local Health Departments. The Epidemiologist will work closely with the team of ITCA TEC epidemiologists to develop Tribal Community Health Profiles. Timely and regular attendance to work and work-related events is an essential function of this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Design epidemiologic studies at the request of Tribal partners.

· Design survey tools, data dictionary, codebooks, and databases; and the collection, storage, transfer, and cleaning of data using Excel and SAS from a variety of public and confidential sources.

· Use epidemiologic methods to design surveys and databases at the request of Tribal partners.

· Collect, store, transfer and clean data using Excel, SAS, or R from a variety of public and confidential sources.

· Conduct basic and advanced SAS data management and analysis (counts, percentages, cross-tabulations, univariate statistics, chi-squared tests, t-tests, regression, and survival analysis).

· Plan and administer the project activities in accordance with the ITCA procedures and guidelines and funding terms and conditions.

· Construct confidential reports and public surveillance reports.

· Construct public health presentations for internal and external trainings, meetings, and professional conferences.

· Provides Tribes with requested epidemiologic and program evaluation technical assistance.

· Travel within the Phoenix service area (Arizona, Nevada, and Utah) to Tribal partners to conduct trainings, attend meetings, and provide technical assistance as requested with minimal supervision.

· Maintain accurate and complete project files electronically and/or hardcopy format of assignments.

· Assist with research, development, and writing of grant proposals for continued program funding. This work includes development of project budgets, work plans, output measures, and outcome measures.

· Meet project deadlines and reporting with quality products.

· Communicate regularly and in a timely manner with the Epidemiologist III / Program Manager regarding any challenges or problems.

· Attend all ITCA, Inc. and TEC center meetings as assigned.

· Provide Tribes with other requested epidemiologic technical assistance.

· Perform other related duties, special projects, and reporting as assigned.

· Follow all ITCA, Inc. policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

· Demonstrated experience and proficiency in SAS.

· Demonstrated data management experience analyzing data from multiple data sources to produce automated public health reports using macros and proc sql.

· Demonstrated community health project management skills.

· Experience with ICD-9 and ICD-10 diagnostic and procedure codes for surveillance reporting.

· Ability to identify and analyze issues impacting the program and recommend and develop solutions impacting issue resolution.

· Valid driver?s license and submit to a background check.

· Demonstrated experience and proficiency with EpiInfo, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point. Must be willing to learn other software and update skills as needed.

· Previous experience conducting community health trainings.

· Sensitivity to others and the ability to work respectively and cooperatively with the organization?s partners.

· Work as a group project leader and a project team member.

· Excellent communication skills in writing, telephone, webinar, and face-to-face meetings.

· Travel throughout the Indian Health Service Phoenix and Tucson Service area of Arizona, Nevada, and Utah as assigned. Overnight stays are often required.

· Use Microsoft outlook calendar system to track important dates, meetings, site visits, project deadlines, requested time off, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

MPH/MS with a concentration in epidemiology or biostatistics plus at least one year post-Master?s degree experience in public health (including SAS data management and analysis). Valid Arizona driver?s license and submit to a background check.

· Previous experience with SAS macros and report automation

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $47,000.00 to $50,000.00 /hour
