Director of Finance Full-time

at UCP-OC in California (Published at 25-03-2020)

We are looking for an experienced Director of Finance to oversee all financial aspects of business and drive the company?s financial strategy and planning. The Director of Finance will be responsible for the accounting and finance tasks for UCP of OC. Including, but is not limited to managing the daily financial operations of the organization to ensure that financial information is reported accurately, timely, and in accordance with foundation and GAAP guidelines. This is achieved by careful preparation of monthly accounting entries and reconciliations along with a thorough review of financial information submitted by other departments. In addition, the Director of Finance acts in a support role to ensure proper administration of payroll, deductions, W2 processing and foundation internal control processes. The mission of United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County (UCP-OC) is to help children with disabilities reach their full potential; improve the quality of life for their families.

Responsibilities

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Processing of month-end journal entries
  • Monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts, bank, and investments accounts
  • Supervise and train accounting staff
  • Manage the processing of payroll, related journal entries, and reporting
  • Review and approve invoices for A/P check run, upload positive pay files for verification to bank
  • Oversee and review standing and outstanding A/R (reimbursements, contracts, etc.) and philanthropy
  • Review daily bank deposits for accuracy, approve exceptions with positive pay and post related journal entries
  • Preparation and distribution of monthly financial statements as directed by CEO and Board
  • Review monthly financial statements with department heads
  • Prepare various financial and cash forecasts as directed by CEO and Finance Committee (liaison to Finance Committee)
  • Preparing financial analyses and summaries, including monthly and annual financial statements with supporting schedules, for all the organization?s activities;
  • Leading the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets by establishing guidelines and templates and working together with the appropriate entity staff;
  • Preparation of annual budget with input and guidance from leadership team
  • Provide accounting support and guidance to other departments
  • Directing the preparation of all additional external financial reporting requirements (audits, 990s, 1099s, etc.);
  • Maintenance of the accounting software program
  • Convert the accounting system from QuickBooks to Financial Edge
  • Convert the retirement plan to a new carrier and TPA
  • Process and ensure all benefits deductions are withheld and reconciled to the billing. Prepare payments as required to appropriate carriers, including medical, dental, vision, HSA, COBRA, and the 401(k) plan
  • Manage the general office support for the Parent corporate offices including file and contract maintenance,
  • Overseeing, reviewing and editing accounting policies and procedures for the organization?s six divisions ? ?Life Without Limits? Pediatric Therapy Center, Childcare program, Respite program, Family Support Services, Recreation program, Early Intervention program and Philanthropy, as well as the parent corporate offices, and oversee the organization?s investment activities. Policies will be established by working together with the Audit and Finance Committees of the Board;
  • Ensures in compliance with non-profit GAAP and accounting standards
  • Organized maintenance of physical accounting, payroll, and vendor contract records
  • Overseeing the financial activities of UCP-OC by providing assistance, training and guidance to those performing the financial functions;
  • Serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  • Perform other duties as assigned. · Lead special examinations or analyses of financial matters of interest to the organization
  • Evaluate and make recommendations to improve the internal controls of the organization
  • Ensure a sound system of financial and internal controls is in place and maintained
  • Work with advisors on the selection of insurance coverage and risk management annually
  • Work with the CEO and/or Director of Operations to negotiate major expense contracts for the organization to ensure the prudent use of entity resources
  • Assist the CEO with any other special projects or efforts to support the organization?s growth
  • Lead the workers compensation audits, 401(k) audits and other surveys/reports requiring employee payroll data

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor?s degree required.
  • 7-10+ years of relevant accounting and financial experience including report writing with at least 3-5 years of budgeting and forecasting experience required.
  • Medical insurance experience is a plus.
  • CPA/CFA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Experience in Non-Profit Accounting preferred.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office; experience and maneuverability in accounting software · Experience in health or disability-related causes preferred.
  • Experience in managing staff (inspiring, coaching, developing).
  • Self-starter and entrepreneurial spirit with hands-on approach toward projects and roles.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work in a very hand on, fast paced environment.
  • Possess a high level of integrity and sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Financial Acumen - Demonstrates a strong understanding of financial concepts for the Non-profit Industry, including medical billing and payments, including reporting requirements under statutory and GAAP accounting.
