Class Definition

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Clean all restrooms and offices. To assist the chief training instructor in the instruction of election officials, voters and civic groups in the proper use of voting machines and oversee the total maintenance, shipping, receiving and inspection of the Board's vote tabulation and ballot marking equipment. Prepare mail ballots for processing which includes scanning, sorting, stapling, stripping prior to the processing of the ballot. Assisting poll worker trainers throughout the state. Maintenance of voting machines in a warehouse environment. Hours may fluctuate due to the demands of elections. Preparing supplies to be distributed to all the cities & towns for the Primary and Statewide elections. Preparing voting machines for testing and prepare for transport to polling locations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Elections from whom general and specific assignments are received.

Illustrative Examples of Work Performed

General maintenance of office area, vacuum and dust Board Room, wash windows as needed. Clean all bathrooms daily. Empty trash cans from all offices daily. Maintenance of the Break room and any other maintenance requested.
To conduct maintenance of vote tabulation machines to ensure their good-working-order.
To provide instructional classes with election officials.
Responsible for the preparation of vote tabulation, ballot marking equipment machines at each polling location.
Responsible for the shipping of vote tabulation, ballot marking equipment and election supplies to and from polling places.
Responsible for the care and maintenance of the Board's storage facilities.
Responsible for the coordination and preparedness of vote tabulation machines for all recounts.
Responsible for the maintenance of records regarding the use, delivery, repair and any other data concerning vote tabulation and ballot marking equipment.
To check the accuracy of the vote tabulation machines and verify the authenticity of the vote count.
Responsible for coordinating voting equipment and supplies deliveries to polling places and oversee and coordinate truckers' assignments with local polling places and the 39 local boards of canvassers.
Assist the staff in the packing and shipping of election forms and materials required to conduct an election at the polling locations.
Responsible for researching any matters on the Board's agenda pertaining to the machine division.
Responsible for reporting/presenting to the supervisor on research findings pertaining to the elections division.
To perform routine clerical and maintenance work of the division.
To perform preventive maintenance/repairs as needed on election equipment.
To perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications for Appointment

Knowledge, Skills and Capacities: The ability to perform tasks requiring mechanical/electrical aptitude; the ability to work with peers and subordinates; the ability to train seasonal warehouse staff and election officials; the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; and related capacities and abilities. Applicant must be capable of lifting 80 lbs.
Education: High School GED
Experience: Such as may have been gained through employment with elections in a responsible supervisory or training position. Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
Also, ability to lift 80lbs.
