We are seeking a Carpenter I for the Soldiers' Home In Chelsea. The basic purpose of this work is to perform carpentry work for the maintenance, repair and/or alteration of State buildings and related structures.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
  • Maintains buildings and related structures applying carpentry techniques and using carpentry tools to construct, alter, repair and/or install walls, stairs, floors, ceilings, windows, doors, etc.
  • Inspects buildings to determine the need for carpentry repairs or alterations.
  • Interprets and/or draws sketches or layouts of work to be done.
  • Erects and dismantles staging and scaffolding.
  • Does installs, repairs, and makes modifications to doors, door hardware, locks and keys.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in carpentry, woodworking or cabinet-making work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school, at high school level or higher, with a major in carpentry, woodworking or cabinetmaking may be substituted for the required experience.
