Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Biology or a related field of science or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years
  • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques
  • Basic knowledge in genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology with related coursework

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a research lab
  • Demonstrated ability to meticulously and accurately record experiments in lab notebooks
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, PCR, cell/tissue culture, sectioning for histology, immunohistochemistry, biochemical analysis of protein expression
  • Experience designing and constructing plasmid vectors and analyzing DNA sequences with web-based programs (BLAST and Pubmed)

We are seeking a highly self-motivated and organized individual for a Researcher position to join our group of researchers studying human heart failure and develop breakthrough treatments. The research of the laboratory focuses on identifying genes that are involved in heart failure and perform functional measurements in contracting heart muscle samples. This individual will work closely with a senior member of the laboratory and assist with the experiments and animal husbandry.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

40% - Molecular Biology

  • Quantitative Western Blotting and Immunohistochemistry of Heart Muscle Tissue
  • Design primers for PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and run PCR, purify DNA and RNA, construct plasmid vectors, amplify and purify plasmids, analyze DNA sequences.

30% - Cell Biology

  • Culture and transfection of cells (e.g. 293 cell)
  • Light Microscopy

30% - General Lab Maintenance

  • Procurement of human heart muscle samples from the operating room
  • Dissection of heart muscle samples for contractile studies
  • Make solutions and gels for electrophoresis
  • Organize reagents and chemicals
  • Write and organize lab manuals
  • Other duties as needed
