Job Summary

The Director of Business Development (DBD) oversees the organization?s wholesale channels including brokerages and exchanges, processing relationships with farmers and operational needs to meet and exceed customer expectations. This role is a member of the Sales team, and reports to the CCO. The DBD must be an experienced and efficient leader with excellent people skills, business acumen and exemplary work ethics. The ideal candidate is highly experienced in Hemp production and manufacturing with established industry connections. Sozo operates with a problem-solving perspective, and values diversity, high ethics, initiative, and results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities nationally and abroad with CBD companies for distillate sales.
  • Negotiate sales contracts and close deals
  • Manage Hemp supply chain relationships and contracting to tailor production methods to fit customer needs; including extractors, farmers, and brokers
  • Create pricing schedules for customers in collaboration with CCO.
  • Utilize company CRM to document and track sales and supply chain communication, provide management with monthly reports.
  • Tailor outgoing agreements and analyze incoming agreements for best Company outcome.
  • Utilize internal as well as external R&D data to support Company differentiation and fit for customers, create supporting sales material.
  • Communicate customer and partner needs to the manufacturing team.
  • Oversee packaging of wholesale products for compliance and customer satisfaction
  • Travel to industry conferences to build customer base and communicate brand value
  • Complete regular market research on trends, pricing, problems, and needs, report monthly to management team.


  • Minimum 4 years proven experience in plant agriculture and/or natural foods. Cannabis/hemp industry experience a plus
  • Minimum 1 year proven experience as Business Development in Hemp related field, crop sales and processing operations or other relevant role.
  • Connections and relationships across US Hemp industry (farmers, white labelers) required, international collaborations a plus.
  • Established, validated relationships in plant agriculture and/or natural foods. Cannabis/hemp industry experience a plus
  • Must have knowledge of plant extraction processes
  • Track record of closing minimum of six figure deals
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Bachelors degree in related field preferred but not required

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time position. Annual compensation, based on experience, is a combination of cash and a generous commission package, creating an exciting earning potential, with exponential growth expected annually.
