Database Administrator IV Full-time

The Vermont Agency of Digital Services has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Database Administrator to lead the DBA team tasked with supporting the vast and varied data needs of the Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) in its mission of ensuring the safe and efficient movement of people and good's throughout the state. AOT is the second largest agency in the executive branch with over 1,300 people. Your work will ensure AOT has the data and tools required to enable its multiple lines of business. This includes but is not limited to design, construction and maintenance of the State's roads, bridges and culverts; highway safety; commercial and non-commercial driver testing, training and identification; motor vehicle registration, inspection, titling, & enforcement; rail, aviation and public transit; contract administration and the financing and accounting needed for all of the above.
Primary responsibilities include architecture, infrastructure and interface design and oversight of the Agency's Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Data Environment as well as Oracle Server and Adabas environments. You should possess extensive data solutions development and administration experience with MSSQL and well versed in most features within each toolset. You will work within a standardized SDLC methodology and will adhere to, as well as improve upon, internal policies, standards, procedures and templates. This position reports directly to the ADS Agency Director of Digital Services for AOT, will directly supervise a staff of three, and is central part of a larger ADS team embedded at AOT. This position is primarily located at the AOT office in Berlin VT however, there will be time spent working out of the DMV location in Montpelier as well meetings at other locations in the area.

Environmental Factors
Work is performed in a standard office setting, but some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available. Work outside of regular business hours may be expected.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science AND two (2) years or more of experience in professional database administration.
Associate's degree in computer science or college-level coursework that includes 15 computer science credits AND five (5) years or more of experience in professional database administration.
High School graduation or equivalent AND eight (8) years or more of experience in professional database administration.
Note: Database administration is defined as the design, installation, configuration, monitoring, security, and maintenance of an organization's databases. Professional database administration utilizes standards, best practices, documented repeatable procedures, and is based on database theory. Administered databases may be relational (RDBMS), local, cloud-based, NoSQL, or other types.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expert level understanding and hands on experience with MS SQL, Analysis Services, Master Data Services, Integration Services and Reporting Services, data base monitoring and performance tuning.
  • Experience in data warehousing techniques in support of business intelligence and data analysis needs of the Agency.
  • Database design and data modeling experience to help continue to evolve the agency's data infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of API technologies and RESTful services in support of a multitude of data interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server administration in support of the virtual database server environment.
  • Ability to write, read and execute complex PowerShell scripts supporting various database production jobs.
  • Ability to design and build robust ETL processes .
  • Working knowledge of Oracle and Adabas administration.
  • Dream Factory, Power BI and Microsoft DevOps fluency an added plus
