Position Description The incumbent will be working as part of the fast paced Global Automotive Refinish IT group located in Pittsburgh at PPG?s global headquarters within the team responsible for eCommerce applications and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). This position offers a unique and exciting career opportunity for a professional motivated to work with the latest technologies and actively engage end users. This position requires a highly motivated individual to support all functions in the business by designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining eCommerce applications and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). The position requires a high degree of analytical skills to solve business problems, strong interpersonal and communication skills, the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, and the ability to work independently - all while delivering solutions on time and on budget.
Business IT Consultants are specialists with comprehensive knowledge in one or more business or functional area. They provide strategic consultancy support to assigned customers in definition and design of business processes. This includes research and identification of enabling technologies based on customer requirements. Incumbents in this position develop and maintain credibility and effective working relations with both customer management and IT personnel in a way that demonstrates an understanding of business problems, as well as IT strategies, issues, and priorities. They ally with other IT functional areas to remain apprised of project status and inform customer management of progress; conversely, they also keep the IT group's technology and service managers aware of current or future business needs and priorities. Incumbents facilitate development of cross-sbu solutions combining knowledge of particular business processes and issues, general technological options, and process facilitation techniques. Based on knowledge of assigned customer businesses, Consultants are responsible for proactively identifying opportunities to improve business processes. Incumbents typically have extensive experience in both process redesign and the strategic application of technology to facilitate process improvements. Incumbents are experts in process engineering and utilize this skill to inform and advise customers on process design and information technology use geared toward generating process and strategic breakthroughs. They also provide services such as facilitating priority setting, brokering contracts on behalf of customers, and advising on functionality, costs, and benefits of proposed solutions.
Technical IT Consultants are technology generalists or specialists. They focus on business process engineering and may be required to direct projects and be responsible for the overall implementation and execution of project and performance criteria, maintaining full knowledge of all phases of business specific technology implementation. Incumbents actively seek ways to apply technology and business process engineering techniques to improve business processes. They conduct research and provide information on business trends, technical advances, and competitors' practices relevant to the assigned client business. They assess near-term needs, using structured interview processes to establish business priorities; consult with technical subject matter experts (such as Systems Consultants, Project Managers and Senior Systems Analysts) and develop alternative technical solutions. IT Consultants have the ability to advise on options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on other business processes and system priorities. They deliver solutions that adhere to PPG?s methodology and architectural standards. Including delivery of system & user documentation.
Interpersonal IT Consultants broker services within the IT community on behalf of customers and they function as process and/or functional experts within the business community. Incumbents must be polished at forging relationships within the business they serve as well as retaining rapport with other IT groups. Negotiation, selling and getting to consensus are key attributes of the successful consultant. These skills are necessary for communicating with all levels of management. Consultants may need to develop, motivate, and direct staff to create a team environment and enable staff to fulfill the department's operating objectives. Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • A 4-year degree in IT related field or Business, or equivalent work experience is required; an MBA is highly desired
  • Requires 7-10 + years of experience in IT, business process or consulting roles with a track record of successful project implementation.
  • Requires 7-10 + years of experience with software design and development experience using a Microsoft technology stack.
  • 7-10 years working knowledge of the Microsoft .NET architecture, VB.NET or C#.NET experience along with SQL-Server is required and working knowledge of UI/UX design and HTML5 is a plus.
  • 7-10 years of working experienced in project management and execution of enterprise projects
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience working in Agile project methodologies
  • Complex problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Extensive knowledge of the assigned business area's products and processes; significant business experience outside of IT is highly desirable
  • Experience in the strategic use of technology in managing and growing a business
  • Extensive experience in business process re-engineering utilizing tools and techniques to effect business change
  • Strong technical knowledge and ability to express complex technical concepts in terms that are understandable to the business
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills; a demonstrated track record in new concept development for various projects and complex technical plans
  • Ability to solve problems spanning multiple environments in a business area
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all management levels
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing such as White Papers
  • Ability to be comfortable in a nonhierarchical, flat organization and, if required, operate under a dual reporting relationship; ability to thrive in a somewhat unstructured hands on environment that demands a consultative approach and solutions that span multiple environments in a business area
