FT Youth Specialist 3pm Full-time

SUMMARY: Responsible for providing all aspects of care to children residing in the Rainbow House shelter; responsible for all activities associated with maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy physical environment for the children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties assigned.

  • Responsible for the daily supervision and care of children in residence
  • Serve as an appropriate role model and establish guidelines and discipline as needed to ensure the safety of all children in care
  • Prepare and serve meals
  • Keep the Shelter clean, safe and orderly; provide housekeeping and laundry as needed
  • Assist children as needed with dressing, homework, hygiene, health needs, medication, and any other needs
  • Transport children to school and other appointments and activities
  • Complete daily documentation as required on each child
  • Assist, supervise, and train volunteers
  • Receive phone calls and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
  • Complete all required trainings and attend mandatory meetings
  • Responsible for purchases of groceries and other household products as needed and approved by Shelter Director
  • Responsible to be familiar with and follow the Program Manual (policies and procedures)
  • Other duties as needed which are relevant to the role of house parent

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

According to state license guidelines, a house parent must be at least twenty-one years of age.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school graduate or equivalent (GED); prior work, volunteer or life experience involving the care of children is required. Knowledgeable of child development and age-related behaviors are desired.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must have the ability to read and comprehend documents and instructions such as safety rules, program manuals and maintenance instructions, to write and understand simple correspondence, memos, and documentation in children?s files, and to effectively present information and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Must have the ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s and to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and to deal with problems involving several variables in usually standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit; use hands to handle objects or material, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a home environment and occasionally in outside weather. The noise level in the work environment is moderately noisy.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Cooperation and flexibility required due to frequent interruptions in a fast paced, dynamic environment presenting multiple demands, constantly shifting schedules and priorities, and simultaneous demands.

LICENSES REQUIRED:

Requires a Class ?E Chauffer?s License? in order to transport the children to school or appointments.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Requires CPR/1st Aid training (Provided by Rainbow House)

Requires level one medication management training (Provided by Rainbow House)

Requires 40 hours of training annually (30+ hours provided by Rainbow House but employees must seek out other training opportunities; Rainbow House will pay for these trainings if approved by the shelter director and executive director)

Salary: $11.50 /hour
