Chore Worker-Nassau,Long Island Full-time

Job Summary:

Support clients striving to maintain their independence by providing home care services. To provide quality care to client in the client's home as specified by the patient care plan in compliance with universal precautions and according to the established policies, procedures and objectives of the organization. A chore worker has the responsibility of reporting client-related issues and changes to the Selfhelp as soon as the issue is identified.

Job Responsibilities:

Chore Worker responsibilities shall include the performance of nutritional and environmental support functions including cleaning, shopping, and laundry as outlined below:

  • Perform light cleaning in areas of the residence utilized by the client, which includes their bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room.
  • Wash, dry and fold client?s laundry, which may be performed either in the residence or at a laundromat.
  • Perform miscellaneous errands including accompanying client to doctor?s appointment, supermarket, bank, etc.
  • Complete required agency and program reports in a timely manner and in compliance with agency and other regulatory standards.
  • Assume other tasks and responsibilities assigned to support the operations of the program.
  • Complies with agency confidential policies; demonstrates and understanding of patients? rights and maintains respect for patient privacy and personal property.
  • Always utilizes electronic time and attendance system and duty sheets, when warranted.
  • Arrive on time to assigned cases wearing their uniform and in-service trainings.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills And Requirements

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or at least one year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Homemaker/Chore Services Training preferred but not required.
  • Must have a valid New York State driver?s license with a safe and responsible driving history.
  • Must drive their own vehicle which is properly registered and insured to client?s home and outside locations when performing tasks.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be responsive to cultural difference of clients, co-workers and the community.
  • Must be able to work evenings or weekends for crisis situations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, climb, balance, taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds of laundry, groceries or other items. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, and use hands to finger, handle or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
