The Oregon Youth Challenge Program (OYCP) is a state agency with a military style environment. Core components consist of citizenship, preparation for the GED or high school completion, work skills, community involvements and projects, health, hygiene, skills, training, leadership/ followership, and physical fitness. Cadets have three educational options in the program: diploma, GED or high school credits and make this choice in the first week that they are enrolled. When the cadets are not in the classroom they are out in the community performing service to the community projects. These assignments are designed to foster initiative, flexibility, creativity, and leadership. These important skills are reinforced so that they are understood and incorporated by the Cadets as part of their work ethic no matter what the task. OYCP is a smoke free campus and does not allow smoking by anyone, anywhere at any time.

The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for a Case Manager (Administrative Specialist 1). This is a permanent full-time state position located at the Oregon Youth Challenge Program in Bend, Oregon.

This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees? (AFSCME) union.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

This position is a direct service case manager supervising and monitoring approximately 50 cases of graduates. During the residential phase the AS1 case manager assists cadets in CAP development, conducts mentor / mentee training and the Mentor Match Ceremony and assist with orientations. The AS1 case manager coordinates reporting, validates data, develops resources and problem solves issues between mentors and mentees during the post residential period.

Working Conditions:

Occasional lifting and physical exertion is necessary to perform tasks and duties. Required to work various shifts; days, early evenings, weekends and some holidays; Subject to periodic overnight travel. Frequently comes in contact with cadets, parents and the general public. May be required to transport Cadets in State-owned vehicles. Extensive sitting, extensive computer work, extensive phone use, writing and documentation. Regular evening and weekend work is required.

Work Experience
The work experience section of your application must include a clear description of your experience in order to determine if you meet the required skills (minimum and special qualifications) and at what level you meet the requested skills. Your answers to supplemental questions about your specific experience must also be supported in the work experience statements in your application form or, if requested, your resume. Supplemental materials such as cover letters and/or a resume will NOT be reviewed or used to determine candidate's qualifications unless the posting specifically states those materials are required from applicants.
Work experience is based on a 40-hour work week. (Example: 20 hours a week for one year would equal six-months of work experience.)

What you need to qualify:

Three (3) years of clerical/secretarial experience that included:

Two (2) years at a full performance level performing typing, word processing, or other generation of documents;

-AND-

Lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures.

NOTE: Courses or training in Office Occupations or Office Technology may be substituted for up to one year of the clerical/secretarial experience. NO substitution will be made for the two (2) years at the full performance level.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possess a valid driver license;

Pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check.

Conditions of Employment:

Must obtain (within 6 months of hire) and maintain a CPR/First Aid Certification;

Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Requested Skills:

  • Excellent phone skills and communication skills;
  • Experience in data entry and creating reports;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, to include Excel, Outlook and Word.
