Position Description:

An exciting opportunity is available for a self-motivated, hard-working individual, with strong Maintenance, Visitor Services, and Administration experience to fill a Senior Maintenance Mechanic position at St. Andrews State Park. The successful candidate must be experienced in the skilled building trades and mechanical repair. St. Andrews State Park comprises approximately 1,200 acers, surrounded by pristine sandy white beaches and emerald colored water. The park is very popular for camping, boating, fishing, swimming, snorkeling, wildlife observing, walking and running, weddings, and picnicking.

Job Duties:

Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply. This is moderately independent work providing Visitor Services, Resource Management, and Administration at St. Andrews State Park.
MAINTENANCE ? Performs, and assists in the oversight of repairs, maintenance and construction of park buildings; to include carpentry, brick, cement, block, plumbing, wiring, roofing, trim, framing, foundations, exterior and interior finish, painting, floors, doors and windows. Performs and assists in the oversight of maintenance and repairs to electric and gas motors, generators, and compressors. Installs and assists in the oversight of maintenance and repairs to valves, sinks, wash bowls, sewers and other sanitary fixtures. Performs and assists in the oversight of maintenance and repairs of all vehicles and equipment, including cars, trucks, tractors, mowers, sprayers, edgers and all power tools. Performs and assists in the oversight of repairs to air conditioning and heating equipment. Operates all park maintenance equipment, including vehicles, tractors, saws, drills, presses, troches, welders, grinders and all tools.
ADMINISTRATION - Prepares vehicles reports, maintenance logs and maintenance schedules. Prepares purchase orders and requisitions as necessary to secure materials and supplies for repair, maintenance and upkeep of park facilities, equipment and vehicles. Conducts and maintains inventories of materials and supplies needed. Oversees Park Safety Inspections and addresses deficiencies noted. Administers and updates the park?s Park Protection Plan.
PROTECTION - Researches, prepares and provides supervisor with timely corrective action plans. Maintains effective park protection through organization and supervision of the park's maintenance resources and equipment and supply inventories. Patrols work area and examines tools and equipment to detect unsafe conditions or violations of safety rules. Maintains safety records and trains others in safe use of equipment and chemical use. Provides annual chemical Safety Data Sheet training for all staff. Maintain and conducts routine inspections of park equipment and facilities. Implements emergency repairs as needed.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - Participate in and support the park's resource management program including, but not limited to, imperiled species management, exotic and nuisance species control, mechanical and prescribed fire habitat restoration efforts, hydrological protection and restoration, erosion control. Oversees the repair of emergency firefighting equipment.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:
Knowledge of:
  • principles and techniques of the skilled building trades and mechanical repair work;
  • safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work;
  • good public relations.
Skill in:
  • using the appropriate tools and equipment to construct new and maintain existing facilities.
Ability to:
  • perform a variety of skilled trade functions;
  • read blueprints;
  • install, maintain and repair electric motors, generators, and other mechanical equipment;
  • troubleshoot small engines and other equipment including ATV?s, UTV?s Golf Carts, Trucks, Tractors, etc.;
  • take accurate measurements;
  • follow verbal and written instructions;
  • oversee maintenance projects as directed;
  • work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays, and evenings; communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • prepare maintenance logs and related correspondence
  • maintain a valid drivers license
Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): Florida Class E driver?s license or an out-of-state class equivalent driver?s license
Other job-related requirements for this position: In accordance with sections 110.1127 & 435.04, F.S. & DEP directive 422 (Background investigation), is required to successfully complete a background & fingerprint check. Take and pass CPR and First Aid certification within 6 months of employment
