Position Description

Position Purpose

Position is responsible for procuring transportation solutions by creating the strategy which includes bids, root cause and work to Minimize spot market, determine optimal mode of transport, freight pay, administration of Blujay (including rates admin), and on-boarding and removing carriers based on service/service calls. Interpret and support optimal network stock and mapping compliance through the development, implementation, and execution of a Transportation Procurement Strategy.


Scope

  • Daily/Weekly/Monthly reporting of key metrics

  • Managing weekly transportation overspend processes to renegotiate rates and reduce transportation spend

  • Provided analytics to determine best mode of transportation by lane (i.e.: intermodal, dedicated, line-haul, LTL, etc.)

  • Prepare Internationally freight bids for Canada & Mexico including CCPS Europe on pricing/sourcing strategies for intercontinental flows, including key CCPS USA decision makers. Operations, Finance, & Logistics Manager

  • Work with CHEP USA International Transportation on freight procurement to support intercontinental flows

  • Support logistics with Transport RFQs, ?mini bids? and the Logistics Manager on RFQ strategies

  • Ensure on time payment of carrier invoices, partnering with business owners to overcome challenges in the process

  • Position will have a dynamic element, where ask and deliverables can change to support the business.


Major/Key Accountabilities

  • Development and reporting of key metrics to the business

  • Maintain a high level of understanding of transportation and stay up to date on new practices in the market

  • Ensure that all carrier selections are made with consideration to service level expectations

  • Facilitate monthly service calls with regional and national carriers to address poor performance and identify root cause and corrective action

  • Develop strategies around inflation mitigation

  • Transportation Contract Management

  • Support the Logistics Manager with carrier management, cost control and improved service.

  • Ensure accurate rates and routing guides are in place to drive TLA above 80%

  • Serve as transportation subject matter experts that can provide support to internal partners and customer carrier partners.

  • Participate in cross-functional projects that deliver process improvements and drive overall efficiencies within the CCPS network.

  • Ability to operate in a high paced organization and effectively achieve solutions to challenging problems. CHEP environment requires ability to work with other groups to negotiate support and mutual progress towards a goal, but the ability to elevate the issue and or demand results when appropriate progress is not being achieved.

  • Ability to accept rapidly changing priorities, drop everything to refocus on a new goal, but the determination and persistence to return again to difficult projects when the new challenge has passed. Strong time management, organization, prioritization and self-directed drive a must.

  • High levels of energy, enthusiasm, and esprit de corps a must. Must be able to motivate the team and self when extremely challenging results are demanded with limited support, systems or infrastructure.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Positive attitude with amplitude to learn

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

  • Organizational skills

  • Proficiency in Excel

  • Ability to teach others

  • Bachelor?s Degree in related field or 2+ years of relevant experience

Desirable:

  • SAP

  • Blujay or other TMS

  • Optimization and Planning

  • Transportation Procurement strategies, domestic & international


Experience

  • Bachelor?s degree in a business or technical field preferred

  • 2+ years? experience in Transportation, Logistics, or Supply Chain


Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to work analytically inside of large data sets to find insights to drive solutions and cost out

  • Develops positive relationship with third party providers, and ensures consistent achievement of expectation/ requirements

  • Knowledge or North America transportation flows, including Mexico and Canada
