Operating Room Nurse Full-time

Deer Pointe Surgical Center is seeking an experienced operating room nurse with a experience in orthopedic surgery which includes total joints, complex arthroscopic surgery and spine procedures. I have included the job description below for review.

Job description: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Operating Room Registered Nurse

Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room and local procedure rooms.

1. Philosophy

3. Financial practices

a) Uses facility resources appropriately and avoids wasteful practices

i. Identifies areas with patients that need assistance and is self-directed to resolve

that need or assist the Administrator to accommodate the situation

ii. Is responsible for maintaining work hours within scheduled time or notifies Administrator of possible need for overtime approval

b) Reports wasteful practices

c) Analyzes work area and makes recommendations for potential cost-effective improvements

a) Contributes to the progress and development of the organization?s adopted compliance program

d) Participates in data collection activities to support the performance-improvement program.

6. Safety/Risk-management program

a) Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities

b) Reports observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure noncompliance to safety officer or other designated person

7. Professional competence

a) Participates in continuing education and other learning experiences

g) Assists with orientation and training of new personnel and acts as a resource person for problems related to patient care


8. Duties

a) Participates as a team member in support of the total perioperative process

b) Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management

c) Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room as well as two local procedure rooms

d) Organizes nursing activities efficiently, considering staff abilities when delegating activities

e) Delegates activities appropriate to the abilities of available staff members

f) Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time

g) Assists with supply, drug, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability

h) Addresses patient needs during admission to the operating room, with attention to requirements specific to the ASC setting

i) Transports patients to the operating room observing policies/ procedures, safety requirements, and patient needs

j) Identifies the patient and correct surgical intervention according to policy/ procedure and communicates such information to all members of the surgical team

k) Reviews patients? medical records/ needs to plan care with other healthcare team members

l) Provides comfort and reassurance to patient

m) Maintains patients? privacy and dignity

n) Explains intraoperative phase of routine procedures and care to the patient

o) Performs the circulating nurse?s role and functions following approved operating room procedures to meet the requirements of scheduled procedures

p) Prepares operating room according to requirements of patient/ procedure to be performed

q) Assembles and provides properly functioning equipment, supplies and instruments before start of procedure and positions and adjusts equipment as required during the procedure

r) Anticipates needs of surgical team and assists anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia

s) Assists with the proper and safe positioning of the patient and prepares operative site as directed by established procedures

t) Monitors compliance with principles of aseptic technique according to accepted standards

u) Assists with identification and confirmation of operative site

v) Provides for comfort in the physical environment by monitoring designated parameters

w) Provides continuity of patient care by communicating with other perioperative care personnel and documenting records accordingly

x) Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and physician

y) Accurately comprehends and interprets verbal orders/ directions

z) Documents patient care records and other forms accurately following policies and procedures

aa) Accurately advises others responsible for care of the patient about patient?s status

1. Cooperative work attitude toward co-employees, management, patients, visitors, and physicians

3. Ability to make decisions and solve problems


1. High school graduate or GED certificate recipient

2. Graduate of accredited school of nursing

3. RN with active license in appropriate state

4. BLS

5. Evidence of leadership qualities

6. Strong ethical and moral character references

7. Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal and telephone communication in American English

8. Computer literacy


1. ACLS certification

2. ASC experience

Salary: $28.00 to $40.00 /hour


  • Procedure- total joints, spine and complex arthroscopic surg: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Evidence: 3 years (Preferred)
  • Surgery- orthopedic: 3 years (Preferred)


  • Associate (Preferred)


  • BLS Certification (Required)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) (Required)

Nursing Degree:

  • Associates Degree in Nursing (Required)
