Position Summary
SURVICE is currently seeking an experienced Geospatial Analyst to support our U.S. Army customer tasked to improve mobility analysis and further understand the impact on combat operations. Support DoD efforts to build new terrain environments, upgrade existing models, and align operational conditions in areas of strategic interest.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide GIS terrain development knowledge and support to construct new terrains from satellite imagery and remotely-sensed data.
  • Develop geospatial products including shapefiles, geodatabases, raster datasets, tools/toolboxes, data visualization products, as well as briefings and reports to document processes and work performed.
  • Gather geospatial data, characterize terrain, interpret imagery, and perform geospatial analysis and heads-up digitizing in support of the Warfighter and the Army acquisition process.
  • Provide geospatial analytical support to create corresponding terrain files to standard military maps.
  • Perform supervised and unsupervised classification to build land-use datasets.
  • Conduct feature extraction using remotely-sensed imagery to create vegetation coverage, soil type, and surface roughness datasets including soil type, strength, slope, land-use, vegetation, surface roughness, and road network information.
  • Aggregate and spatially join various GIS data layers into single GIS geodatabase terrain files.
  • Perform quality control procedures to ensure terrain files are accurately representative of modeling areas, quality control procedures including spatial topology checks.

Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, or related field, along with a minimum of
2-5+ years of directly related Geospatial / Geographic Information Systems experience required. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of the degree. Experience in the following highly preferred.

  • Geospatial and/or geographic information systems analysis on relevant, mission related project support
  • Experience Developing geospatial data sets including road networks, linear obstacles, surface drainage, and vegetation.
  • Experience conducting feature extraction using remotely-sensed imagery to create vegetation coverage, soil type, and surface roughness datasets.
  • Experience Resolving issues identified in spatial layer data sources when data elements conflict.
  • Experience performing quality control procedures to ensure terrain files are representative of the area they are modeling.
  • Quality control procedures including spatial topology checks
  • Data schema compliance
  • Cross referencing other data sources to ensure consistent results

Security Clearance Requirement
This position requires an active U.S. Government issued security clearance
