Software Engineering Manager Full-time

at Harsco Corporation in South Carolina (Published at 07-02-2019)

In 2018, we increased our Software Engineering staff by 30%, and more are coming this year to support the explosive growth of our Measurement and Analysis products.

This talented group of engineers develops industry-leading embedded systems used in railroad measurement systems. In this role, you will lead the design, development and support of these systems. You'll create project plans, provide general technical direction to your team, and follow up to ensure completion of assignments. You will serve as liaison among departments including manufacturing, program management, field support, technical publications, and the customer.

  • Provide leadership and day to day management across your development team
  • Foster an effective team culture founded on innovation, creativity and collaboration
  • Drive and provide leadership on the end-to-end software development lifecycle, development methodologies and overall architecture
  • Develop and implement software development plans, schedules, resource allocation and associated budgets
  • Contribute and actively engage in the review and design of software, including technical review and requirements analysis
  • Collaborate and consult closely with functional teams outside the Software Engineering organization including Product Management, Program Management, Sales, Engineering, and Support

Domestic (U.S) relocation is available for this position.

Requirements:

About you:

You will have a BS degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering or Mechatronics with 8+ years of work experience developing embedded software (at least 5 years in C++) with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.

Preferred qualifications include :

  • Certification in a project management discipline (PMP, Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, etc)
  • Experience with networking, including wired and wireless communication protocols
  • Experience with Embedded Real Time Operating Systems
  • Experience with troubleshooting and development tools (JTAG devices, soldering iron oscilloscopes, multimeters)
  • CANBus network experience (SAE J1939 or CAN Open) and other fieldbus systems
  • Well-rounded knowledge in software, hardware, electronics, packaging, production and design for manufacturing and assembly techniques
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma or other formal continuous improvement methods

Candidates must be willing and able to travel by automobile and commercial airline, domestically and internationally, approximately 10% of the time.
