Assembler III Full-time

Reports to: Production Manager


Primary Responsibility: Assemble precision optical components into mechanical assemblies for laser systems at both the component and sub-system level.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Understands and interprets details of assembly drawings and Bill of Materials.
  • Facilitates process documentation and provides appropriate level of tooling and design improvement feedback to the team for new products.
  • Ability to perform different bonding and measurement techniques using available equipment and providing improvement ideas for increased safety, quality, and output.
  • Ability to assemble multi-component opto-mechanical assemblies.
  • Understands safe operation and capabilities of all equipment in work area.
  • Ensures compliance with established specifications.
  • Follows proper cleanroom practices and protocols.
  • Recommends and implements process improvements.

Qualifications:

Required Skills


Manual Dexterity

  • Fine motor control, good hand-eye coordination; feel for handling sensitive optics and preserving finished surfaces.

Optical Assembly Background

  • Knowledge of handling and transport of optics including how and when to use tools such as tweezers and vacuum pickup tools, insertion of optics into mounts without damage, cleaning and inspection without degradation of surface condition and quality.
  • Experience using 2-part adhesives, including the use of precision microbalances to insure accurate ratios.
  • Knowledge or experience with various optical assembly / alignment techniques, adhesive dispensing and curing, shimming techniques, use of torque limiting tools a plus.

  • Checks work before signing off on completion.
  • Records information on the process sheets correctly.
  • Turns off equipment and places tools, components, and paperwork in designated storage locations before leaving the area.
  • Schedule minded: Willing to occasionally work overtime or off-shifts to support the shipment schedule.
  • Willingness to help continually improve the assembly department?s products.

    Computer Skills

  • Understanding of and familiarity with basic computer usage under the Windows operating system.

Skills / Experience / Education

  • High School Diploma / GED Equivalent (minimum).
  • 2 year Degree or Technical School Graduate preferred.
