Director Data Analytics Full-time

The Payment Integrity Analytic Consultant is responsible for bridging the gap between Analytics and Payment Integrity business teams. By understanding the capabilities, strategies, financial and operational goals of both teams, the analytic consultant performs several functions, including identifying opportunities to leverage analytic solutions, assisting with the management of and intake of analytic projects, acting as product manager for analytic services, and working with operations to achieve savings, efficiency or knowledge value.

This position will establish and cultivate relationships with our many matrix partners and clients including: UHC and OPI Operations Business Leads, Analytics and Technology teams, Finance and the PMO. Developing business insight from an extensive suite of payment integrity analytics, and representing the business needs to the analytics team.

In addition, this role can fill quality and performance management, as well as project management functions as needed, ensuring that all stakeholders? needs are met.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Establish strong matrixed relationships with internal and external stakeholders to define, align, and deliver analytic initiatives to support new Payment Integrity offerings
  • Communicate business and analytic client?s needs to data scientists
  • Develop executive analytic presentations / materials, coordinate analytic requests, and support the analytic planning process to drive performance
  • Act quickly to seize opportunities to leverage analytic services in innovative and new ways that drive broader and deeper value for our clients
  • Ensure analytic work is managed via the correct portfolio process
  • Create programs which provide awareness and understanding of our advanced analytic services and how they compare to industry best practices
  • Provide oversight of complex analytic initiatives, providing timely and meaningful client updates
  • Develop streamlined path to escalate and resolve analytic process and performance issues
  • Provide industry insight and thought leadership to business and analytics teams to assist the team to achieve business and analytics goals
  • Partner with the business teams to develop and implement a strategy to achieve business goals.
  • Identify and research key industry, company and operations issues and provide insight to business teams
  • Participate in demonstrations and sales presentations as needed
  • Leverage analytics to identify quality issues and drive to solutions
  • Diagnose opportunities for, and promote process reengineering, automation, quality and efficiency endeavors
The successful candidate will be a seasoned payment integrity analytics professional with proven experience driving and communicating analytic solutions targeted toward growth. Those best suited for this position have strong payment integrity, analytic, and relationship skills, with a consultative flair. The role requires the ability to discuss and manage analytic deliverables at a rapid pace in a highly matrixed environment. This position requires a leader who is passionate about delivering maximum value from Optum's Payment Integrity Analytics through the collaboration with matrix partners and clients.

Required Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in Economics, Statistics, Analytics, Computer science, Nursing, Healthcare Management
  • 10+ years of experience in the US health care industry (Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial) with deep exposure to Payment Integrity and healthcare claims
  • 5+ years of experience managing relationships between operational teams or business clients and technical teams
  • Skill using statistical analysis methods and tools such as Excel and SAS to evaluate healthcare claims data
  • Strong technical data analysis skills, including ability to navigate environments, construct and execute queries, analyze and aggregate data, and present the results using visualization tools
  • Proven skills in critical thinking, persuasive speaking and presentations
  • Experience with big data, predictive and descriptive analytics, and data visualization
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (Master's) in analytics, health care or medical field
  • Highly collaborative and consultative style with ability to work with all levels of management across all functional areas
  • Strong problem solving skills, demonstrates initiative and creativity by originating new ideas, anticipating and implementing next steps
  • Self-managed, self-starter, able to work in rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent negotiation skills
